Title: MAG bash Sat 1st Nov
Post by: niceguy1979 on September 09, 2008, 11:04:50 PM
Hi all,
I am arranging a big UK meeting on Sat 1st November in Coventry!

We have loads of things planned and are hoping to attract some good exhibitors. The entrance fee will be cheap and should be well worth it.

If you would like to attend, or even exhibit just email me at l_stowe@hotmail.co.uk

http://www.midlandamigagroup.info - keep watching the site for updates and more information.

If you would like to come along and want to attract the exhibitors you can pledge your attendance. The more people show they will attend the more exhibitors will come along. Some big names are expected!!

Cheers

thanks for the pledge.
Hopefully with the SAM/OS4.1 news it should pick up momentum a little and make for a more interesting event.

We are looking for exhibitors and visitors too. If anybody is a member of a usergroup who would like to attend and have a free table and a couple of free passes let me know.

Alternatively, If you have any contacts with any amiga companies (hardware, software, retailer etc) and would like to persuade them to come along please do. The more the merrier.

If you develop shareware/PD and would like to use the event to show off your work, perhaps with a seminar get in contact with me.

Cheers

WIRELESS NET ACCESS
just checked on the internet connection at the venue and all is quite good. We've got to set up a repeater to make the signal strength good enough. We wont be able to connect too many machines, so it's just going to be the exhibitors and seminars that will be able to use it......but it's free at the end of the day, so we can't grumble.

BUY & BUILD tables available!
for people who want to buy any kit and build it at the event tables will be available. bring your screw drivers, 4 way adapters and LCD monitors to make sure you have all the bits you need.

DEMO CODING AREA
tables will also be available for the coders out there to get together and if there is enough time to code a demo. With the new hardware available it would be interesting to see what it's capable of.

FOOD & DRINKS

the Wellspring cafe in the church will be open for people to get some light snacks & food before the event. Refreshments will still be available in the hall served by my lovely wife, so I hope you all treat her nice! Teas, coffees, soft drinks, water, probably crisps and snacks

@niceguy1979

Sounds like it should be a good day, I'm looking forward to it.

An error on your site, LAG is the LINCOLNSHIRE Amiga group not Leicester as you listed us. Please see the url in my sig.

Thanks for organising this and I hope you get a good turnout. As a group we'll be bring a various systems. Including classics, an A1 running OS4.1, Peg 2 and Efika both running Mos2.1 and if it arrived in time I'll be bringing my Sam with os4.1 *fingers crossed*, the case and all other components are sat here patiently waiting.    :-)

Hi guys just thought I would write a small report on how the Mag Bash went.

Me and my dad arrived at the church hall at 2pm. We saw a rather nice Mag Bash banner with a boing ball in the background.
I was very suprised to see how many people where there. The room was rammed full of people and I would say about 25/30 people at the start and then the number grew to about 35/40. (dunno if my estimation is correct :P)
Instantly to my right I noticed an Amigaone which also ran os 3.9. As I moved around the room I saw a Sam440 running Os 4.1 and next to that a Morphos Machine (not sure what machine and what version of Morphos). I then noticed a nice A2000 and C64s.
I then saw the MAG table and they had an AmigaOne, Amiga a1200 PPC with amigasys 4 and a load of stuff for sale from MrNiceGuy. Next to them was Hyperion with Sam440 and Os 4.1 on a big lcd monitor and a rather nice custom built case.
Next to them was amigakit with loads of great s\tuff for sale ( I brought a mouse adapter).
In the middle of the room they had a buy and build table where a sam440 was being put into a case. Also next to that table TheDaddy was showing off his wonderfull minimig cases.
I setup in a corner helping Swoop install Amikit. I was running it on a EEE PC which drew some intrest. I stayed until 5.30pm as it was so great :P (my girlfriend was a bit mad :P)
As all this was going on Metal dust was being played on a projected screen from a c64 with supercpu :D which was very impressive. Then we had a demo of os 4.1 by hyperion which was great. Pity they could not get the net working so we could not see owb in action.
Then we had a showing off the allegro games engine. Ported games like sonic and other classic titles where playing. It was finally raffle with top prize a sam440!

This was a great event and I returned home with my hands full. I brought a mouse adapter from amikit. I brought a midi interface, A1200 8mb expantion card plus some nice cds from MAG. Everybody I met was really friendly and great people. Thanks so much MAG and MrNiceGuy for holding such a possitive and sucessfull event. My dad filmed it all so our video should be online sometime next week.

Nice chatting to you mate, thanks for letting myself and OldAmigan have a look round the SAM - cool case and nice setup on both the SAM and the PegasosII.

BTW - is that a Caterham in your avatar?

I mean that sure is lot of Photoshoping to make it look like a 'real' Amiga gathering took place...

...but you missed one thing, no way there would be that many woman in attendance.

Nice try!!

Hi Amigans,

ROFL!

I was thinking the very same thing as AmigaHeretic!!!!

I counted 17 and even 19 people in 2 different photographs. That's, well, huge for our platform.

Could you imagine if, the HW was either cheaper OR faster for not much more than they are charging for it?

If we get a 1.7 GHz CPU (with Altivec, a G4) and the price was merely $200US more, I think anyone who could possibly afford one, would buy right away!

My estimate would be 800 Amigas sold, minimum.

I can't believe that no major corporation hasn't stepped in to make a go of it...... Come on IBM*! This is the "Hottest Ticket" in town!!

* Or Radio Shack. Or Richard Branson.

Hi Rudei,

WOW! Awesome!!

And so tragic that Outcast has left the building. :-( :-(

But, he'll be back, he'll be back..... :-D

When there's new low cost/fast HW.
