Title: amithlon on laptop
Post by: sidchip_fr on August 30, 2008, 10:38:25 AM
Hello,

I'm looking for a laptop which supports amithlon.
I mean with full graphic and sound card support
(not only 640X480 mode in 256 colours)
For the sound part,it seems that amithlon support
the soundblaster 128 pci (it doesn't exist on laptop I think)and some ac97 sound system
I would like to have some laptop suggestion which could
work with amithlon ?
The best choice would be to have an enough powerfull laptop
for running too E-UAE at full speed with sound
(Pentium IV at 3ghz ?)

Thanks

Look for Gary's Amithlon Page. He did drivers for a specific laptop, which he owned, I believe. Just get that one and your set. Otherwise, good luck!  :-o

Do you mean this website?

http://www.garycvl.f2s.com/amithlon.html

as it has no mention of laptops at all there.

I gave up on Amithlon a few years ago. It is very unfortunate that Gary 'DrBombcrater' Colville has decided to violate the GPL by not releasing the source code he used to build the newer kernels, hence making it virtually impossible to compile kernels with support for newer chipsets and drivers. I never got gfx board support running except for the 8-bit VESA framebuffer, never got the Ethernet NIC working and only got sound support by heavily patching some binaries with newer PCI-IDs. It was a mess.

With the advance of WinUAE, I hardly see any use for Amithlon any longer.

There are Kickstart replacement bounties that are available for AROS.  Currently a native Intel build of AROS with a legal kickstart ROM image can run EUAE with JIT compiliation.
