I have a decent amiga 3000, it has ethernet and a decent video card. I'm wondering it it's worth it to try to trick it out any more or just trade it off and build a 1200 system.
All the accellerators for the 3000 cost an arm and a leg (and your first born child), so I guess I'm looking for some advice or ideas.

So do accelerators for the A1200. What are you going to do with this machine? the Processor in the A3000 is still faster than the stock one in the 1200, plus you have built-in SCSI, flicker-fixer and Memory.
If you got an Amiga 1200, you would have AGA only, no ethernet, and an 020.
I'd keep the the A3000.

And remember if you want to expand your a1200 you would need a tower and busboard too. Keep the a3000 if you don't need AGA.

All good points, thanks all.
I guess I'll just save up and buy a decent accelerator.

3000's ROCK!

Man...if I was ever gonna grab an Amiga "just 'cause" again, it'd be a 3000, hands down. As someone else said, it was the last Amiga designed in the "right way" - not a budget model, no concessions for money saving. Onboard SCSI, onboard FF/VGA interface, etc. etc.
3000 all the way.

Maybe I can buy a Deneb USB card for my 3000 to hold me over till I can afford a flipping Accelerator.
Wife's gonna flip if I spend $200+ USD on the deneb, I won't want to even tell her how much a Cyberstorm costs ;-)

I might have an 040 @ 40MHZ card kicking around. Let me know if you are interested. I was thinking about getting the Deneb too... what are you planning on doing with the machine?? Games don't really like an 060 anyways... please do fill us in!

I like the A3000, for the same things as mentioned above!
I have it, but rarely use it.
It is configurated the same way as yours.

You'd need to buy a 1200 accelerator, which is expensive but not as expensive as for a 3000 if youre not talking 060 or PPC. PCMCIA ethernet for 1200s is absurdly cheap. Laptop IDE drives are cheap and work in 1200s so you can get a few gigs in there.
To keep in mind: 3000 accelerators and other cards work in 4000s, which have the AGA chipset. So that's another upgrade path.
