Hi Guys,
I thought it was time to properly check out the movie and video players available and see how well my CSPPC 604e can do :-)
I'm happy to have just paid £13.51 to download the PPC version (1.6) of MooVid, but a couple of things are bugging me.
Firstly I cannot select and play my .MPG music videos :-(

Can something be added nowadays to make this possible?
It has been great at playing the .MOV music videos from some old CD singles I've got. But there is one that it cannot play giving the report:-

Can I find and add a codec somewhere to make it play this type of .MOV video?
Thanks
(System: A4000D/PPC 233Mhz running OS3.1/WarpOS with CV64/3D GFX card)

As for opening and seeing mpg files in the requester, I think you can change the pattern like so: "#?.(avi|mov|qt|mpg)" and they should be visible.

You were correct about making them visible thanks. Unfortunately when I choose one to play I get the report:-
"Not a recognisable AVI/MOV file!" :-(

Is this (http://www.dfmk.hu/~torokl/) the correct website?
It seems to me that it's a pure AVI QT player, and not an MPEG player.
Did you btw register recently, is there a chance that he's still accepting registrations?

Frankly, what did you expect? MooVid is about 6 years old now and the codec tech has moved on.

Yes, that is the correct website. I then clicked on www.reg.net which took me to products by Lazlo Torok. I chose MooVid -PPC version from the products list and proceeded to make payment. I then immediately received two E-mails and clicked on a link in one of them which started MooViD downloading. The file is called 'MooVidPPC16Reg.lha'. Don't know if registration of some kind is still to follow?
EDIT - EDIT - EDIT

Thank you for using Reg.Net - The Registration Network. You may now download your registered copy of MooVId - PPC version.
I guess that means it's already registered then!

A more useful post than that  (Just kidding Piru :-D ;-))

Hmmm.. The high quality SVQ3 .MOV video in question is from a CD single released in 2002. The PPC version of FroggerNG can play it (sloooooowly). I was hoping to prehaps put in a codec and play it better with MooVid.

You can play MPEG files with Moovid. Moovid can be used only for AVI/MOV files. For MPEGs I recommend AMP by AmiDog.

@ mailman
Thanks. I've recently dowloaded Amp2 and it's very good for MPEG only. But it will only work for 30 days and I can't find a way of registering it. Any idea if you still can? Do you know if the AVI support of Amp2 was ever completed?

AMP is freeware. Check author's page for download (http://www.amidog.se/cgi-bin/amiga_wip.pl).

I think I've been using an old shareware version from Aminet for the past 2 or 3 days.
Will download those and check them out. Thanks very much indeed :pint:

Mathius sure kept his to word when he said that he would add AVI support. The Amp2 in that link plays MPG, AVI and MOV as well :-)
However, it cannot play the video footage, but it can play the audio of this SVQ3 compressed .MOV file.....

Prehaps it can be sloved by adding a codec or there is some other player out there that could play this .MOV music video which is from a CD single released in 2002?
Anyone tried SoftCinema? Is there a PPC version of Riva?
-
@A4000_Mad
There is nothing you can do for Moovid since it doesn't support external codecs. SoftCinema and AMP2 supports some of the xanim PPC codecs for linux. There is a website where you can download them but i don't have the URL. You will find it if you search google with the right keywords.
Have a look at ffmpeg too. It's a video converter available for all Amiga OSes.
Is there a PPC version of Riva?
No.
