The airport in Atlanta is huge, with direct flights to all over the world.
Who would show up for a weekend if I booked a place? Would you bring your Amiga?
We could have competitions, movies all night, Amiga dealers, 'celebs'?, etc.
Think about it and be positive.
-
You can count my attendance & participation if we had something in Atlanta,GA! :-D
-
Friend:
I would love to show up. I live in Augusta, only two hours from atlanta. Cheers!!!

We would be happy to support this.
When you have the details, let us know and we will publish them on www.amigakit.us
-
We attended one of these 10 years ago, would love to go again.
-
@riccofl
Where would you try and host a meeting? Some where near the airport?
Wow, I might be able to finally update the Amiga Atlanta website with some thing new and interesting? Cool. I'd try to be there. You might put a post over at Amigaworld.net also. Serveral folks from the North/South Carolina group frequent there and might be interested.
And a very nice gesture Amikit, thanks.

That was probably the last one the Amiga Atlanta group hosted. (Might have been 1997)
Come on down and maybe I can bring that Toaster/Flyer beast I just finished building. :-)

I can not go, but will buy a ticket if it helps.
I hope they produce a video.
:-D
-
You'd have my full support. If it was set up as a real show, I'd probably come as a vendor and offer a few door prizes. I could also bring a few systems, including the fabled Monster Commodore 128T.
Atlanta is about 10 hours drive for me, let me know the details if it is to happen.
-
This sounds like it could be interesting. I have never been to a user group meeting or anything like that before, and this would be close enough for me to attend. :-D

How long has that Survivor graphic been on there? :-P
-
Sounds good to me. I was just asking in the AmiWest thread about something close to Florida. I'm only about 5 hours away.
-
It's only a 16 hour drive. I'm in.

Hehe, "only"...
I can drive from one end of our country to the other and back in that same time - twice! :-)
(I think a 2-hour drive is a bit long already)

Let me guess, you don't have a car, only a rather old bike ? :madashell:

Only a brand new Ford Focus :-)
I like driving, but I only drive for more than 2 hours on 1 day when I go on holiday.
And driving 16 hours (that's a 32 hour roundtrip!) to an Amiga meeting (which you will attend for, say, 8 hours) just seems like a monumental waste of time to me - it's a bit like driving from Amsterdam to Barcelona, go shopping, have dinner, and drive back again.

Want to carpool?

We are also happy to exhibit if the show gets off the ground.

Watch out for Russians!

I'm game.

I'm in Atlanta all the time. I'd go for sure.

All my support for people of Georgia against imperial russia. I just didn't know that there is allso Atlanta city.
Only atlanta I know is in U.S.A

Should be doable.

Then stay over night and find other things to do as well. In Atlanta, there's quite a few things to do after the Amiga show. I, for one, would be game for thinning my blood at a local establishment. Mind you, that's not ALL there is to do. There's Underground Atlanta, which I haven't seen in almost 10 years, and so on.
I figure Amiga Atlanta would be a day I would remember, and a night I would not. :-D
-
Yea, There's a ton of things to do in Atlanta while your there.
They have one of the worlds largest aquariums. I went there last time it it was cool. There's also the Atlanta Braves & Falcons if your into sports.
There's also a lot of clubs that have bands.
To much stuff to list here.
-
Thanks for all the positive responds. Stay tuned for updates.
Now to the hard part; Convincing the family on going to Atlanta next year. Heck, as a kid, we never needed a reason to go to a computer/demo party.
It will be fun, it will be reliving your youth with 'Kick Off', 'Lotus Turbo Challenge' and other games in multiplayer mode.
-
Maybe I will, the last one was great and even CNN was there. Big Banquet with Fred Fish, RJ Mical, Jason Compton, Dave Haynie.
-
How long has that Survivor graphic been on there?
Oh, I posted that about the end of 2003 I guess. Been a while. :-) You'll notice it's a bit different from the one you normally see though.
I kept thinking about doing updates, but then there's little to update with that hasn't been posted on the "big" Amiga sites a dozen times already. Why would any one bother with a site that get 30 hits on a good month? :-P

I just read through this thread, but did not see when this Atlanta meeting might occur. Depending on time of year, other commitments and my financial situation at that time, I would like to attend.
Any idea when it is being planned?
-
I'd love to go.
-
I would go, I am on the coast of NC :D
-
I would be there!! Its only a 3 hr. drive for me. I would even come early to help with setup and moving the heavy stuff.
-
If it were in the winter months I would make it for sure.. Too much going on this time of year..
-
> Who would show up for a weekend if I booked a place?
I would, as would at least a dozen former members of the Amiga Atlanta user group (who hosted the 10Yr Amiga celebration/banquet (there is an excellent video available by Aaron Ruscetta http://www.facebook.com/people/Aaron_Ruscetta/643964087
professionally edited on 4:2:2 BetaCam of the entire event) with Stewart Chifet, the Leutennant Govener of Georgia, a then famous CNN AnchorWoman, Dale Luck, Tim Jennison, etc.
> Would you bring your Amiga?
Um, yeah, easily for sure! In fact lots o' stuff! CBM and DTV64 stuff --> and even my Boxer MB!
I'd donate some door prizes too.
Note: The ole' Amiga Atlanta User Group crew is FLUSH with Amiga/CBM/Video/net/projector HW, etc.
> We could have competitions, movies all night
Indeed run multiple Videos (scattered about in parallel) for all 36+hrs of an event. Then we dine close by (or better order food-IN) then at night we chill, party and talk until whenever at the hotel/resturant Bar...
> Amiga dealers
Redrum!, and hopefully more.
> 'celebs'?, etc.
HEH :*)
If it happens on a 3 day weekend you are sure to attract more friends to attend. You plan a slick event and me and others will be dialing thru our Ole' Amiga Rolodex's, mail, and email files to gather a storm of GENIUS forth to Atlanta!
I'll bring at least four Amiga literate chicks, my wife (...and possibly even grovvel to host my X girlfriend who is so L337 these days. 8*) *GRIN*)
Amiga Atlantan Robert "LostMan" Hamilton of "Death is only the begining" T-Shirt fame is good for at least a dozen more painting w/computer women. (He taught' em how!)
If you have an Atlanta Amiga Party, THE SOUTHEAST WILL RALLY TO ATTEND!
The GatewayAmiga-ish shows from 97+'s that CUCUG had in St.Louis were awesome and the Midwest Amiga Expo in Columbus show ROCKED!
and more recently (2002) the "Amiga Expo" show that Nova Design's Kermit Woodall put on was awesome! He'd have some good advise too.

Ya might want to widen the scope to include the C-64/DTV64
scene as they have more active USA members these days...
Note: I've attended over 50% of the USA Amiga/CBM shows(and many in europe) this last 2 decades, so IMNSHO:
Be sure you charge enough for tickets to make your well deserved profit!
I never minded a high-ish priced banquet: _IF_ its worth it, but dont charge $40 for a non-sit-down buffet banquet w/o desert.
Nor ask "just" $10 for one run of all-you-can-grab-n-eat Pizza...or infinate amounts of 2L generic softdrinks at room temprature all 48hrs - very lame and fratboy-ish...
HOWEVER!
Amiga events in hotels near fast food-courts and liquor stores dominate the great times we all had:
Atlanta ComDex and Atlanta Siggraph 1988, Amiga Devcon Atlanta 1990, Orlando 1993, Midwest Amiga Expo in Columbus.
Anyone had some good times there? 8*D
We are mature Amigans, we can afford quality, and having some more good Amiga times will be well worth it.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT IDEA RICCOFL!!!!
Joe Torre
amiga@mindspring.com
P.S. There will be Boing Levitation.
-
Maybe I could throw in a shamless plug for my city - Miami. I'm sure it would be real popular to have a meeting in January ;). I have meeting facilities avaiable to me... If nothing else, there might be interest in a regional meeting - there used to be many amiga clubs in the area...

If you stumble over Bigfoot, ask it what platform it prefers =)
-
Hello,
I am in. It is only 4 hours driving from Huntsville.
Sometimes, I just go to Atlanta to buy some french cheese at Whole Food and some furnitures at IKEA :-).
Regards,
Frederic

Well, my big question is " WHEN " in 2009 . .
I'm in for a weekend of Amiga & stuff . . . :-D
-
Hey, i'm half Russian!
-
This is great! Count me in! Finally the east coast wakes up. :)
-
If this actually does happen, I would like to go and bring my nephew and we could shoot the conference on 2 SONY HD cameras and make a high quality video of it...
-
@joetee
Your right the 10 year anniversary video and event was awesome. I enjoyed that event and would love to have it on DVD with bonus features instead of my old VHS version. Always awesome to see you and other friends at Amiga events. Maybe someone can talk RJ Mical into coming again.
:-D
-
I could bring my Efika w/ MorphOS 2.0. Its still not running stable but maybe that will be solved by then. :-D
-
wow, that all sounds mental! :-D
-
Great postings, thanks.
Formal dinner will be served.
So far it looks like there is going to be plenty of computer gear, I like the 2:1 ratio. :)
Question:
How about having the 'Press Play On Tape' band come and play in the evening?
-
Depending on when, I would love to show up. Any excuse I can find to hang out with the Atlanta guys is a good excuse ;-)
I could bring my MorphOS2.0 (by then at least 2.1) powered EFIKA (that lives in what was supposed to be my wife's cosmetic case) system. I also have a Woopsi powered DS (Woopsi is a homebrew app system inspired by Amiga's Boopsi that runs on the Nintendo DS).

Wait, I thought this was an AMIGA meeting...

 I could bring my old A1200, and act like it's got a few more MHZ!

Hey, I'm bringing a 20Mhz C128! Nothing more "Amiga"than that :-P
-
Just wait until you see my NDS running Woopsie. Actually, you don't have to wait, just do a search on SourceForge for it. Heck, if not for Nintendo gearing up to kill all homebrew, it would have been news-worthy.
Forget searching :) Here's the link, and a new meaning to AA!

Hey Red,
Did you ever part out or sell your towerized C128? I'd drive to Atlanta just to see it. :-)
