Title: A3640 VS WarpEngine
Post by: dannyp1 on August 11, 2008, 10:11:45 PM
I know this subject has been dealt with several times before but I stll get confused.  What is the difference in processing speed between an A3640 which is 040x25 and a WarpEngine which is 040x40.  Would this be a sizable speed increase?  I would really like to see an equation where the numbers can be plugged in and an answer given.  I have been told on here before that an A3640 is much faster than an 030x50 card.  There should be a formula that would give me precise answers when comparing processors.

There is a massive speed difference because the A3640 cannot use one of the best features of the 040 which is BURST. Almost 1.6x clock speed increase + burst support made the WarpEngine much faster.

An A3640 is many times faster than an 030x50 due to architectural differences, bigger caches etc.

There is. It's called benchmarks

As you can see the WarpEngine is anything between 1.25x and 2x faster than A3640 and 3x faster on RAM because of burst access.

You forgot to say that the WarpEngine's RAM runs on 40 MHz also. ;-)

Well it HAS RAM where as the A3640 doesnt!
