(Also posted on MZ)
I have got a 512MB CF card in an adapter on the IDE interface and the install image on a USB drive. I can boot in to MOS from the install image, but I can't see the CF card in HDConfig or iWizard. All it sees is usbscsi.device:0 (but says "no medium inserted"). I have tried the adapter as master and slave and have also tried a 128MB card, but nothing works. Am I doing something wrong?
TIA

Tcheko on MZ has answered this already!

Hello,
Nothing wrong.
This is a known issue that will be solved with next bugfix release.
Some CF/IDE work well, some other not.

I had the same trouble. My Sintech CF-IDE44/2.0mm Adapter V.B1 wasn't detected. So, I transfered the 20GB Hitachi HD from my A1200 and put the CF-IDE in the A1200. Now I have a silent A1200 and a nearly silent Efika so I'm happy.

I think it is the card rather than the adapter which causes the problem, since the adapter is passive (nothing more than a cable really, perhaps with a couple of components for voltage adjustments). Though what you say is consistent with my experience, since the two cards I tried which failed to work in the EFIKA work fine in my A1200.
If anyone is using a CF card successfully with an EFIKA I would be really grateful if they could post the brand, model (if applicable) and capacity. If I can't find a working one I'll have to hope the bug is fixed soon since I don't have a 2.5" IDE hard drive I can use.

I am using a dual cf to ide adapter from Addonics, with two 4GB cards from Transcend, they are 133x speed cards. PCUniverse.com part number TS4GCF133 at $22.40 each.
Interestingly enough only one of them is recognized, and only if both are plugged into the adapter. The EFIKA does not like the dual adapter when one of the CF cards is missing, and if there's a way to get the hd tools to see unit 1 on the ide bus, I can't figure out it.

Thanks pkillo. My other half has ordered a Transcend CF card to replace the hard drive in a Mac Mini, so I'll try it when it arrives. If it works I'll order one for my EFIKA.
Cheers!

No problem; I'm trying to hijack your thread on morphzone.org though, to see if I can find out anything about using the second card... :-P
i've been considering trying out an external usb hard disk with the efika (just for data and maybe less resource intensive programs) as i just upgraded my media pc (alas, to a wintel box) and now have one that I could reformat but at usb 1.1 speed I'm not sure it would even be worth the effort.

It's ok, I think I'm finished with that thread now. You can have it ;-)

I haven't actually got my EFIKA set up yet, but judging by how long it takes to boot the install image from a USB drive, it would be too slow to be usable even as a data drive :-( I'll report back here and on MZ whether the 16GB Transcend card worked. If it doesn't then I'll order the 4GB one you're using.
