Title: I just got a buttload new CD32s! updated more pics!!

My digital camera battery is dead, so I had to use my kids (crappy) camera. I'll take better pictures later. These are new, the boxes are bit worn from 14+ years in storage and being shipped half way around the globe :-) Otherwise, sweet!

They are here in the USA, Fort Lauderdale Florida to be precise! Yes most of them will be for sale, I will only keep a couple for myself. If interested, PM me! You could have one at your door in 24-48 hours if you wish!

-EDIT-
scroll down for more pics!

Actually I could never sell such a product in good conscious. Back in my Anachronism days we decided not to carry any of the Teron (AmigaOne) boards due to known critical defects. I know we could have made sales, as other fly by night dealers happily did, but I prefer sleep well at night.

OTOH I would chew off my own arm to get a stash of NOS Pegasos II boards in 2008!

BTW some have questioned my price, suspecting that I am gouging customers making some kind of obscene profit margin. My profit margin is less than $30 per unit when all is said and done.

I am not trying to get rich, just provide a service and make a small profit in the process.

-Edit-
If you would like to order direct from China, HERE YOU GO (http://cgi.ebay.com/Commodore-Amiga-CD32-Console-PWSupply-Controls-Complete_W0QQitemZ350078863672QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item350078863672&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318). It is only $130 shipped, of course you deal with customs and assume the risk should something go south  ;-)

I think it is what we've now come to know as the Akiko (http://bboah.amiga-resistance.info/cgi-bin/showhardware_en.cgi?HARDID=1449)

Buster was another name commodore used for a custom chip. Maybe the Akiko was known (in house) as the CD32's Buster? Maybe that is what marketting wanted the blurb to read? Or maybe it was just a mistake? Who knows?

What's the deal with all the CD32's shipping out of China? What's the story here.
God I wish they'd reverse engineer it already and put it on one of those MP3 player, Camera, thingies with an LCD display.

I would imagine for someone in China making $30-$75 on these is like a goldmine.

But surley would have helped with things like gloom and AB3D  to offload the conversion to this chip , freeing up cpu cycles for other things ?

Well, the popular story goes that the NTSC CD32 units were being manufactured in the Philippines IIRC. Just before Commodore went bust they couldn't pay their bills, so the manufacturer decided to hold these units for 'ransom'. Ultimately these units wound up in the hands of Asian sellers which explains all these NTSC CD32 units coming from China.

Not sure if it's 100% true, but sounds plausible.

I am sure I read the chip was critically flawed and it was better / faster to use the CPU to do everything.

I think the chunky and planar screens both had to live in chip ram which means lots of copying around etc.

Piru explained how the C2P AKIKO worked, and frankly it is such a simple device which worked only in ChipRAM, that rendering to a FastRAM chunky buffer and then using the CPU to C2P during the copy from the Chunky buffer to the Frame buffer was as efficient if not better (especially with a fast CPU).

I like how Commodore often put seemingly unrelated stuff on a single chip, like UART, sound, and floppy controller (though I can see where floppy and UART might go together.)

Quote
The Akiko is also responsible for implementing some of the control logic for the built-in CDROM, as well as for controlling the serial, "AUX" port on the CD32.

Used with no accessories or power supply, of course, but I have all that stuff already :) I'm waiting for a cheap knockoff in a box printed with Chinlish for $40 ...

What would someone need to do in order to make a CD32 into a A500/A600 like machine?  Would it properly run most of the Amiga software?

@Zekaric
Throw a CD based game in (like Sim City) and have fun! For more computing power would take a bit, starting with
Amiga A2k/3k keyboard and any Amiga mouse. Probably help to have a hard drive, I'm sure someone here would have a suggestion.

A nice stash there. Interesting to see the minor differences over the one I had, which may have applied to all PAL machines. I can't remember my CD32 box referring to the Buster chip and the Commodore logo was not coloured in on my unit.

You would need a SX-1, SX32, or SX32 Pro which would give you a floppy drive connector to attach an external floppy drive.  The CD32 already has an AUX port for an A4000 style keyboard and a mouse can be inserted into one of the joypad ports.  That would give you the same functionality of an A500/A600 and it should run all the same software that any A500/A600 with OS3.1 ROMs installed will run.

You can also install a hard drive inside the SX-1 enclosure.  The SX32 Pro allows a 2.5" hdd to be installed inside the CD32 itself, and I think the SX32 also works the same way, but without the SX32 Pro's 68030 CPU and 68882 FPU.

The CD32 is actually a very good Amiga option if you don't want to expand it much, as the accelerator options are extremely rare and limited in number of different ones made (the only one I know of is the SX32 Pro but there might be more).

To get a brand new Amiga of any kind is sort of rare these days, so if you are interested in getting one, give Red a PM and start having fun with your very own brand new Amiga!

I think it's better to call them NOS technically cause they're as old as any CD32 out there. They're just unused. But they're still very prone to SMT cap leakages which kill most of the amigas produced with SMT technology (A600, A1200, A4000, CD32).

Is is possible to boot a CD32 from a CD that contains Workbench? I know of the compilation game discs but I'm wondering how much functionality could be extracted from a CD32 with a keyboard and mouse attached.

Long story short, I've decided to clear out the last 6 from the second and last shipment at dead cost. Buyers at the higher $175 (shipped) asking price will be refunded the difference. If you didn't get the email, let me know.

CD32 for $135 + shipping (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170242446552)

First come, first serve. I doubt I'll stock more.

I'm with Weirdami. Why shouldn't you be allowed making a few bucks on the machines? After all you took some risk buying the stuff and took more risk selling on to others. We all know who gets bothered if one of them fails within the next few years... :-S. So you're way too honest (naive we would say in the netherlands ;-)) and should have pick those few bucks 'profit' per machine. There will always be those who complain.

if I was Red and annoyed with complaints about these system (though Red is pretty level headed so I'm sure he has other reasons), then I would say; Sod the lot of you, withdraw the units from sale, refund any unshipped orders and make a video the units going up in a bonfire :)

At the end of the day ...

It's Red ...

... who has the CD32's in stock.
... who took the time and trouble to get the CD32's in the first place.
... who makes a huge effort to make these available to us.
... who has overheads and a 'company' to run.
... who supplies us with other goodies in the C= world

Whoever it was making the complaints about his prices, i say this ...

SHAME ON YOU!

Red ... Keep up the good work!  :-)

There may be more than one seller in China, but at least one seller has been selling his stock on eBay for the past several years.  I bought one of those about three years ago.

I don't know how many were manufactured in the stock made in the Phillipines, that was never shipped to Commodore just before they went bankrupt, but it must have been perhaps a few thousand, or at least several hundreds.

I feel really bad that Red has decided to dump them at his cost and is considering never stocking them again, as I was one of the people that questioned his price (in private) because I thought since he ordered so many, he must have gotten a big price break on the shipping cost from China.  Red responded that he did not get any price break per unit on his order of multiple units, so I then understood and supported his pricing of his CD32 units.  He has the right to make a profit for his time, trouble and the risk he took to put out a sizable chunk of money to get them here.  I think it was a rip-off that the seller in China did not offer Red a discount on the shipping of his multiple unit purchase that would have allowed Red to sell them for less and still make a profit.

I suspect that Red probably should not have posted a link to the eBay seller where the buyers of Red's units could have purchased their CD32's directly for less money, as this might have led to them complaining after the fact about his price, but I am just guessing.

We all know how cheap some Amiga users can be, it is just a shame that Red was coerced into feeling that he needed to refund some people and sell the rest of his stock at cost.
