Title: What is this for?
Post by: Xanaa on July 14, 2008, 05:26:25 AM
Hi,

I picked 1200 HD model..no power supply to test it yet.
On the back of the machine there is a square add on plug that is in the game port. Brilliance on the end and a sticker that says Security Key  serial number C7B1
Any idea what this for?
Do these machine's have a battery that should be removed, machine has not been used since early 90's
Thanks,
Xana

If the machine has an accelerator or RAM expansion card then it'll have a battery.  Probably the "coin" type so you needn't remove it, but do double check it (they don't readily leak but any chemical battery can have an accident).

The dongle in the back is a copy protection tool designed to thwart pirates.  The particular one you have is for the program Brilliance.  If it didn't come with the machine, then you can huck it.

If the program Brilliance is on the hard drive will dongle be needed?

You don't think there's the chance someone else could need it?
