Title: GFX cards for MOS 2.0
Post by: motorollin on July 12, 2008, 09:02:12 PM
I've had a look around on morphzone.de and can't find the info I'm looking for. Although the site mentions that MOS 2.0 is compatible with the EFIKA, I can't see where it says which graphics cards it supports. Is this info available anywhere?

TIA

Great, thanks guys. I'm sure I was a couple of clicks away but I never quite got there. Would it be a fair assumption that *any* PCI video card with one of those chipsets would work?

I would say it is.

But why PCI?  You'll end up with a tall Efika!

Bad assumption. First, I think the Efika's PCI slot is keyed to only accept 3V PCI cards. Also, for both PCI and AGP cards, the Efika simply won't boot with certain ones (because of BIOS issues I guess).

I went through my stack of video cards looking for one that would work:
S3 Trio 64 PCI - doesn't fit
S3 Virge DX PCI - doesn't fit
Cirrus Logic GD5464 PCI - Efika doesn't boot
SiS 6326 PCI - doesn't fit (supposedly supported by MorphOS)
SiS 6326 AGP - Efika doesn't boot (supposedly supported by MorphOS)
nVidia TNT AGP - Efika doesn't boot
nVidia TNT2 AGP - Efika doesn't boot
ATI Rage IIc AGP - Efika boots, but not supported by MorphOS
Matrox Millenium G250 AGP - Efika boots, but not supported by MorphOS

It works perfect.

I'm confused now... Doesn't the EFIKA have a PCI slot? I know it as a 90 degree adapter, but I assumed that it just adjusted the angle. Are you saying I can use an AGP card? Does that adapter actually convert from PCI to AGP?

33/66MHz PCI with bundled 90° AGP riser slot (http://www.genesi-usa.com/efika.php)

OK so I can use a PCI card perpendicular to the EFIKA or an AGP card parallel to it, right?

Just remember, it should be a 1x/2x/4x AGP card for the right voltage. Some but not all 4x/8x cards can voltage switch.

The genesi riser is not very "smart".

Basically, you really need to go buy a low profile radeon 9250 (and if you can get a bracket conversion kit or mini agp bracket).

Would this one be ok?

Link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120282246400&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=002)

It's the same model as the one TheMagicM mentioned, but the card looks different. Also, the description says it's an AGP 8x card.

Well, for me the description says:
Quote
compatible with AGP 2X (3.3V), 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (2X/4X/8X) or PCI bus.

That means it should be fine.
