Title: Blizzard 1230 Mk-IV: More memory and an FPU required
Post by: NovaCoder on June 20, 2008, 12:27:08 AM
Ok so I've finally got myself a Blizzard 1230 Mk-IV but it's only got 16mb (60ns) fitted and is missing the FPU which I'm going to need for coding.

First question, how much memory can be fitted when it's in a stock 1200 case without raising the sucker half a meter off the desk?  I've heard that you can fit a max of 64mb, is that true or will only a 32mb module fit properly?  I don't care about the trap-door as I've already removed it for improved air-flow.  As a side note, I also had to bend the upper RF shield as it was a bit too close to the Blizzard for my comfort.

Will any old 72pin sim fit ok?  I assume I'm better off trying to find some 50ns sims or doesn't it make any difference?

Is good old eBay the best place to buy the memory?

I've heard that any speed FPU can be safely overclocked in this card...is this correct (eg 25mhz to 50mhz)?  Also, where's the best place to buy an FPU from?

The MK IV should accept 128MB and another 128MB if optional SCSI controller is attached...

I've had very good luck with buying memory from compuvest.com - hard drives as well. It can take a while to find exactly what you're looking for on their site sometimes, but only because they have too much to chose from! :)
