Post by: Linchpin on August 17, 2003, 09:17:46 AM
Seems this was the crossroad eh? Stupid mistake branding those logos on the same piece of paper, even in the same room is bad  :griping:(http://home.wanadoo.nl/richard.lagendijk/Foto%27s/DISK-MSWin30.jpg)

analyzing this afterwards is really easy. imho they would make the same mistake again, even if they had known before.

It's for the IBM clones Commodore used to make.  I'm not sure why everyone is so scandalised.  Commodore always had more than one hardware architecture going at any given time and they used Microsoft software right from the start.

What C= tried to do was tap the business market with IBM clones, since no one ever took Amigas seriously in that area.  Sadly for them, they couldn't compete with the established brands, so they failed to generate any revenue.  Would it have been a different story if C= had backed the Amiga as a business machine?  Hard to say, as the main business software developers never took Commodore seriously anyway.

Commodore's real mistake was making a complete balls-up when it came to move things on from the A500 era.  Pretty much every single decision they made after that was dumb.

I thought it was for the clones but was not to sure, I no longer own an amiga, but in the slight chance it was for the miggy, I would want a copy for colection purpose only.

After all, Amiga basic was from Microsoft...

I thought it was common knowledge that Commodore started to make PC compatibles before their demise.

AmigaBASIC was also hacked by Microsoft.

I remember buying a Commodore Colt, but returned it since the stupid monitor was damaged on it.  Would have been a collectors item.

Those of us who have had the missfortume to have used AmigaBasic, know that it was the nastiest hack ever made.

M$ Clearly did not have a clue as to how the AmigaOS worked and made some odd design decisions.

They are dd floppys? thought pc use hd floppys?

They're DD mostly because it is circa 1990, I'd guess. Although HD floppies were in use (most probably heavy use) it is the lowest common denominator at the time for 3.5".

Don't know what Commodore PCs came with. C= seemed to have an affection for DD in general, it seems  :-P

Heck, ya. I have the shell of one in my basement (retrieved from trash for its PSU or something, I forget.), and one of my my old teachers in college had one in her office.

Fools.. such a waste..

Hi,

Just to let you know Commodore built quite a few computers, lets see the PC colt, PC 20, and I believe the PC 40, where all built by Commodore.  Face it all Commodore was trying to do was to make money for themselves and stock holders. They could have given a damn less if it was Amiga, C64, C128, PC Colt or Pet, just as long as it sold and made money. When they made the Amiga they were still living off the high of the C64 and wanted a computer to take its place. Unfortunetly they failed in every respect. Times and computers where changen and so was the way people thought of computers.

ps I sold Amiga's when they first came out, never could get enough to put in stock. Had plenty of Colts and PC-20's though.
