Not sure if this is a HW or SW issue so I'll post it here.
I’m having a few stability issues with my 1200.
I’m running a Escom 1200 with a 4GB CF and an 8mb expansion card (switched to run as 4mb to avoid the PCMCIA issue and without an FPU).
I’m a new user so I’m just getting my head around a lot of this stuff
I was running 3.1 for a couple of weeks and the system seemed stable enough although I didn't install many games or utilities. Now I’m trying ClassicWB (full version) and although nearly all of the pre-installed programs work a couple of them are causing the black screen of death. I tried my first ever WHDLOAD games last night and none of them worked. Worms AGA kept complaining about lack of ram so I tried it with the whole 8mb and it then died before the intro, pinball fantasies seem to think that I was running the wrong system library(?), Wings at least started up but then also crashed after a few minutes of playtime.
My HD CF is partitioned to about 500mb for System and about 1.6 gig for the other 2 (named DH0, DH1 and DH2).
The only thing strange about my setup is my block size which I set to 1024, could that be causing these kind of issues? I also enabled the trash can and directory cache on all partitions (using FFS)...is this all ok :-?
When I mount my CF in UAE it works fine, no issues with ClassicWB utilities, no issues with running the 3 games?
I also compared my system settings when displayed through WINUAE with the real thing and the only differences I could see was that my real Amiga had a slightly newer version of kickstart and that the file system was different.
Could it be the memory expansion card? Anyone got any ideas?

Well it doesn't appear to be the memory expansion card as the ClassicWB utilities are still crashing without it.

Just a guess really, but it appears that old games don't check the versions of libraries and just overwrites them. I've experienced the installing of older games to cause OS3.9 to have major problems myself. You might want to check your libraries and copy the ones back in from your OS3.1 floppy set if necessary.

Ok thanks, I'll give that a go and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'm going to re-format the drive and change the block size back down to the default 512 and reinstall bog-standard 3.1 off disk and see if I can get some downloaded WHDLOAD games running ok.
What gets me is that (using the same hd) the system seems more stable running under WINUAE than the real thing, I'd have thought it would be the other way around :-?
Maybe it's some kind of difference between the kickstart image and WB3.1 disk image copies that I used to setup my HD under WINUAE and my real Amiga's version of kickstart? SysInfo was dispaying a slightly difference version number (WinUAE vs Amiga).

It turned out that I was using the wrong ROM to setup my HD in WINUAE. After using the write ROM I manged to create a very stable ClassicWB install for my 1200 :-D
I'm still having issues with WHDLOAD though, it seems to think it's running on a 4000 and keeps winging about the missing kickstart images. A500 games work fine, but whenever I try an AGA game it fails :-?

Check the docs for the particular game. You probably need a 3.1 ROM image along with some support files from the SKick package.

Hum, what is your PSU ?
Can you exchange it for a modern one ?
