Title: WANTED: Amiga 2000 part!!
Post by: barney on June 05, 2008, 04:01:13 AM
Hey everybody, here is an Amiga 2000 part I really need but have not seen anywhere.  I am looking for that large rod/brace that is inserted in the Amiga case and screwed down to sturdy up the entire computer.  I hope sombody has seen or heard of this item before.  If you have one or know where to get one, let me know where or how much.  Thanks.

Barney

Never seen an aftermarket part like that, but the problem should be easy to fix with a trip to the hardware store to get a rod for a brace and maybe a couple of tools.

Question, why would you need a brace in an A2000 case? They are fairly rugged and would probably survive being run over by a car or being tossed out a third story window, so what are you putting on top of it?

The rod is designed to keep the top of the bottom section of the case together where the zorro cards go.  It does help a bit in keeping the case from warping and takes pressure off of the individual zorro card slot plates.  So it does serve a purpose.  Without it, some cards are more difficult to attach the slot screw to and put undue pressure on them as they are helping to hold the shape of the metal box together.

Again, not absolutely needed but nice.  You could probably make your own by buying a threaded rod, coating the middle section in plastic shrink wrap or non-conducting material and using a threaded eyelet on the end attaching to the zorro backplate.

@jlmjr1957

Don't you mean a fourth floor window?

@barney,

A piece of threaded rod (say 3/16") cut to suit. If you wanted to insulate it like the original wrap it in electrical tape or heat shrink. Try to get zinc plated or stainless so that it doesn't rust inside your A2000.

@argus,

Sorry I didn't see your post. I see we think along the same lines!

I've got one. I've got a trashed A2000 chassis with a defective MB. There are a lot of other parts in there as well. All I plan on keeping are the custom chips and maybe a few other things. PM me what it's worth to you if you're interested.
