Title: 20 Mbit/s ADSL could be I problem to connect an Amiga?
Post by: Daniele on June 02, 2008, 10:08:59 PM
Hello,

as already expressed in my old post:
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34617

I have never had success to connect my A1200T to the net!
I have tried EASYNET 10/100 NETWORK CARD in my Mediator with Voodoo3 installed and even the AMIGA PCMCIA WIRELESS CARD both bought from AmigaKit.
I tried a lot of programs : EasyNet, Genesis and Miami.
The problem is that my Amiga cannot see the router and if I PING the PC with 192.168.1.2 or my Router 192.168.1.1 from my Amiga 192.168.1.3 the PING command do not answer.
When I click connect on EasyNet it says unable to reach router.

Now I am wondering this: is possible that I am not able to connect because I have an ADSL 20 Mbit/s?

Or there are other reasons?

Many Thanks

Daniele

Nope.

Are you 110% certain the network is properly configured on your Amiga?  Netmask, gateway, etc?

Are you sure the device driver is (properly) loaded?

Can the Amiga ping itself?  For example, ping 192.168.1.3 (if that really is its IP) or ping 127.0.0.1?

Just to be sure:

Have you checked the speed settings of your network card
in Easynets interface section, just like Amigakit said
in the other thread?

This one may be obvious, but have you checked if your
network cable is ok?

Lloyd

Yes, of course.

Yes I have tried it connecting a second PC.

I am very disappointed and I feel bad.
Just 15 minutes ago a friend of mine on MSN that did not touch the Amiga since 15 years put it online in 45 minutes! And I am since more than 1 year trying to solve this problem!

But he used 192.168.2.157 on the Amiga192.168.2.90 รน
192.168.2.90 pn the PC and 192.168.2.1 for the Router.

I always tried 192.168.1.3 for the Amiga , 192.168.1.2 for the PC considering that the router should be 192.168.1.1.

What can I do?

I'm desperate!

Only thought I have is to try something like 192.168.1.100 for PC and 192.168.1.101 for Amiga.

All the routers that I have had, the IP router tables starts IPs off at the 100 range (i.e. 192.168.1.100)

I don't know that it should matter, but it is something to try if you haven't.  I suppose of the PC is working it might not matter, but you never know...  :-)

EDIT: Did you also log into the router itself and turn off DHCP in the router?

You need to know a little about you ADSL modem's DHCP, how does it assign IPs?  Are you trying to assign an IP that's already in use on your local net, say a printer or a virtual machine?

Show us the result of the command "ipconfig" on the PC (which I presume is running windows, maybe even "ipconfig \all" - from the command window ofcourse) when it is up and running correctly. That should provide us enough hints to help you.  :-)

Assign amiga's ip 192.168.2.200 and you should be all set.

It's usually the DHCP's range... what router gives you automatically when asked. It should be possible to use other values still when addresses are static.

Shouldn't also matter if DHCP is working or not. Static addresses should work always still.

How are things going?  You need to be sure everything is in the same network.  If your modem is 192.168.0.1 then everything must be in 192.168.0.x, the first three sets of number *must* be the same.

We are waiting for the results of your ipconfig on your pc...
