Title: Toasted A3000
Post by: terminator4 on June 02, 2008, 09:19:04 PM
LOL,
i can't help but laugh at this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Commodore-Amiga-A3000-Motherboard-Rev-7-Frame-Cover_W0QQitemZ320256659953
not severe???
look at the spill it reached the chip right off the battery...
and the people bidding are offering $56 so far with few hours left.  No telling how long the battery spill was on the board and how deep it penetrated the pcb.  This is why I maintain that a good amiga 3000 with no battery spill is always worth $300.

Yeah, probably best to avoid. I bought the A3K keyboard she was selling, and while I decided to take the risk, it arrived *filthy* and fairly yellowed. I'm sure the front bezel on this thing is the same. :/ (She shipped it quickly, though... LOL.)

I think only the custom chips worth more than 60USD. But It's a personal option. The case don't look bad, either.

Better than 1200USD for a cherry A2000 keyboard who a well-known guy is want to sell... :-x

The keyboard looked great in the pic, also... similar crappy, unfocused shot that made it appear better than it was. (Not to complain -- as I said above, it was clearly a gamble on my part.) I agree though, might not be a bad deal for parts at around $50-60, considering ebay prices.

If the price of classics keep going up, I may have to go back to the repair biz.

That 3000 board didn't look too bad. I'd bet that the battery corrosion isn't even the main problem. If the buyer is a repair tech at all, it's not a bad deal. If the buyer is just an amiga jockey looking for a few spare parts, $130 is a little on the high side.

I actually bid on this, more for the case I was told would come with it, so I didn't care so much for the battery leakage, but _damn_ did it end up going for way too much!
