Post by: trekiej on June 02, 2008, 06:22:07 PM
Is this an RJ11 phone cord?

Yes. Look here (http://www.hardwarebook.info/Amiga_1000_Keyboard).

Forgive my being disagreeable but are you quite sure? The connector at the given URL is listed as being an RJ-11 (more correctly called a 64PC) but that is not what is depicted in the drawing. The drawing shows the correct connector for the Amiga 1000 keyboard which is a 4P4C (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RJ9) also know (incorrectly) as RJ9. It is RJ-11's little brother. It's the same cable that goes between older phones and their handsets and can be found in most electronic surplus shops.

Hope that helps.

I do not know.
My machines are about 50 miles away.

It's an RJ10 as this is what I ordered when making the keyboard simulation cable for A1000.  So my current cable manufacturing company understood it as RJ10.  It maybe called other names, but definitely not RJ11 as that has a bigger connector which won't fit in the telephone handset.

This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RJ-45) Wikipedia entry might be of interest for those who really want to understand the various types of connectors. Admittedly, it's confusing.

I'd offer to send you a free Amiga 1000 keyboard cable but I gave my last spare one away last year. :(

It is indeed the same cable as in a telephone handset cord.

If you put the connectors side by side, the connection goes like so:

1234 4321

Just in case you want to make one yourself.

Yep. I just did a quick check and it hooks fine to a telephone jack.

Ed.

I appreciate all the comments.
What would be nice is a cordless adapter instead of a cord.
