Has anyone ever tried getting widescreen workbench using AGA?
I ask because I have a little project in the pipeline to make a CD32 laptop from an old PC Laptop. Unfortuanetly getting the LCD display to work seems very unlikely (see previous posts!). So I've been looking at 'cheapish' LCD diplays that could be used via RGB/Composite connection. The best choices so far are a PSOne 5inch LCD display (which I think may be a bit small, but only £100 or so even cheaper on ebay!) a 7inch widescreen displays for £140 (which isn't a lot larger but would look pretty cool I think). I know that I could buy a cheap 15 inch LCD display for £150-170, so don't nobody tell me the obvious.
Anyway anyone had a go with W/S Workbench?

Right here, worked fine on my A1000.

Probably Super-Hires mode is best for widescreen displays.

I've always wanted to try this, but sadly have no widescreen TV (sniff). Tell me, is the TV's electronics smart enough to stretch the 4:3 super hires screen output to fill the whole 16:9 widescreen display? Any overscan tricks?

I have a Widescreen TV but haven't actually tried this, however all widescreen TVs do is stretch out the horizontal direction. You would need to force it into 16:9 mode as the Amiga doesn't output a widescreen switching signal, but this shouldn't be a problem and I imagine it would look like a wider hires mode. I've been meaning to try it for ages but my Amiga is happily connected to an ordinary monitor and it will probably stop working if I disturb it.

Okay, I changed my mind :-) Had to increase the font size due to the low resolution of the TV (and the flickering), but the aspect ratio is pretty good in Super Hi-res Interlaced. I could probably have increased the overscan a bit, the default gives a border around the edge of the display. I didn't have any decent high resolution and hi colour pictures on my HD to demonstrate properly unfortunately (should have thought of that before I disconnected it to move it nearer to the TV). The picture on the right is a strange background image from the OS3.5 install, the one on the left is a resized and reduced colour Eric Schwartz one (which most will recognise, I think). The strange colourisation and lines are due to it being taken with a digital camera and resized.
Unfortunately the monitor-specific Super Hires modes are not as high resolution as the PAL/NTSC ones.

OK, seems good. The problem being I'm trying to use a LCD display, so I would like to run at native resolution WITHOUT stretching, ie get a clear as possible picture, important when you only have 7'' to play with ;-) ...
The cheap one has a 480 by 234 resolution (now I know why it's cheap (still approx. 2800 dpi at my calc)). So now the question is can I run a dispaly like that. Seems a bit too high for standard overscan. What about "MonEd"? I have never used that could that produce a 15.6kHz output with 480 pixels wide, or am I starting to break the laws of physics? Basically how much of these screens could I fill, or should I just stay with the cheaper and smaller 5 incher standerd PSone display!!!
