Title: Amiga 500 + SCSI CD-ROM drive problem
Post by: Xamiche on May 26, 2008, 12:36:26 PM
Sorry if this has been asked before. I couldn't find any helpful threads with the search function.

I have an internal Pioneer SCSI CD-ROM drive connected and properly terminated to my A590 HD add-on. What software will I need for  my Amiga 500 to be able to use this device?

My A500 has a 3.1 KickROM, is currently booting from the SCSI HD and HDtoolbox can actually see the CD-ROM drive though as a non-HD unknown device. This seems to tell me that everything is good hardware-wise and now I need the SCSI equivalent of IDEFix, or something along those lines. I have very little experience with SCSI devices so a little info would really be appreciated.

If you are running wb 3.1 you can copy CD0 from storage to devs/dosdrivers and use it ( just set the cd rom to device 2 as it's the default device set in CD0)

Yeah, you need a filesystem handler.  There are various ones, there might be one built in on various AmigaOS versions...  If not for whatever version you run, there are a few on AmiNET to choose from.  I think IDEFix used CacheCDFS as it's filesystem handler.

Thanks guys. Got it working now. The Amiga 500 Tower project progresses.
