ok ppl, who are your favorites ? what do you think about your country's song this year ?
a big suprise for me this year was first time participant azerbaijan's entry (http://youtube.com/watch?v=GOII1G_Gaj4). ok I know some of you will hate it but I'm a sucker for all these angel-vampire-devil crap. The song itself is not bad too, though I try not to hear the lyrics.
an interesting thing this year is the double semi finals. a measure to break the power of the eastern bloc it seems. I wonder how well it will work ?
another suprise for me was an alternative entry for azerbaijan. the end by unformal (http://youtube.com/watch?v=wvMaTl3Q9sc). This is a very very cool song, though I can understand why it didn't make it cause it's too heavy. But it's very original.
-
for those of you outside of europe, you can watch the live stream here (http://www.eurovision.tv/splash/index.html), the second semifinals should start in a few hours.

C'mon Andy

spain (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_pCSnEYLF5k) is one of my favorites too :)
-
france (http://youtube.com/watch?v=MqeHFxjpkhw&feature=related) has sent a song in English ! A first in eurovision history I believe ! I'm impressed ! Good song too !
-
greece (http://youtube.com/watch?v=GKUuRW2P0GA) has sent a nice song with combines hip hop (?) with traditional greek melodies ... nice one neighbor ! (cool chick too)
-
I think we should send in Rick Astley with "Never gonna give you up"... it's the only way to both win and mock the whole sordid affair...
-
@bloodline
It really wouldn't surprise me if a remix of some kind were submitted one year...

It's a handle, by which you would hold something...

knob |nɒb|
noun
a rounded lump or ball, esp. at the end or on the surface of something.
• a handle on a door or drawer shaped like a ball.
• a rounded button for adjusting or controlling a machine.
• a small lump of a substance : add a knob of butter or margarine.
• a prominent round hill.
• vulgar slang a penis.
I'll leave it to you to work out in which sense I was using the word ;-)

You wouldn't use vulgar slang, would you?

Of course not. I was referring to my prominent round hill.

I switched over at 11PM just to see how badly we did. Not surprisingly we came last
Andy was a dustman who collected rubbish. He obviously has no problem with delivering it either ;-)
The News wrote:
Sir Terry Wogan has said that he may quit as the BBC's Eurovision commentator. The host, who had guided viewers through the contest since the 1970's, said this years results showed "it was no longer a music contest".

I think Andy did as well as he could and he deserved better. But we all know why UK performs poorly in the last years.
1 - No friendly neighboring countries (well maybe except from Ireland ?) If you guys participate seperately (like, wales, scotland, etc) you'll do better.
2 - UK being perceived as 'non-european' from central europeans perpective. So you can't even get points from western european countries.
3 - lack of interest in the whole affair. I'm not sure about this, but did andy promote his song in other european countries ?
unfortunately, yeah, eurovision is no longer a 'music contest' (for a long time actually) but I still find the whole affair entertaining :)

A few points from friendly neighbors wont make you win the contest. I must say that UK did really suck this year and so did my home country Finland too.

I have to agree!!! I always wonder just what anyone can find attractive about the male form... That said, after a hardcore work out at the gym, I sometimes think "Ahh, yeah now I look really good"... but only in a I can see muscles... everything is all bulgy and lumpy, with veins... nothing is actually attractive like the beautiful soft curve of a young German woman's thigh...

Btw. have a look at Lolo again, and rethink my 'likewise' statement; one man isn't the other. And I'm *quite* fed up with the cliche of men considered ugly anyway.

I don't like to be considered something ugly either. But by comparison a woman has far more attractive features IMO.
I recall reading of Adam's response to meeting Eve. He said to God "This woman you have created as my companion is absolutely beautiful, but why did you make her so stupid?". God replied "It occured to me that a being with any intelligence would not have found you to be attractive" :-D
God later commanded Adam "Do not let this woman into the sea!". For a few weeks Adam obeyed this command, but eventually couldn't resist letting her into the sea. God bellowed down "Adam you fool! Now we'll never get the smell off of the fish!" ;-)

That's YOUR opinion. But I have a totally different feel for aesthetics. And, IMO, the feminine, 'round' shapes are overrated; presumptious, meaningless, characterless.
And it's these characterless 'aesthetics' that are being pushed in the media the most, to appeal the characterless crowd the most.
"Adam you fool! Now we'll never get the smell off of the fish!" ;-)

Aesthetics are very personal, I wouldn't take other people's opinions personally. I suspect the type of woman I find attractive, for example, is probably actually quite different from ADZ and vice versa...
