Title: My new DVD drive doesn't want to slow down
Post by: AmigaMance on May 21, 2008, 08:30:11 AM
  Hi.
 I bought a new, LG DVD RW for my Amiga 1200 and it works fine, except of one thing: It doesn't seem to obey to "set atapi speed" commands.
 I have tried many different ways to achieve this without success. SetAtapiSpeed, CDSpeedKiller, WolnyCD, the preferences of IDEFix, etc. Nothing works!
 I never had this kind of problem with older CD/DVD devices and i didn't know that newer ATAPI devices had this "problem" until i read this on the readme of CDSpeedKiller:
Quote
Q: I've try with my drive but it does not work ! What happen ?
A: Some device seen to don't support the "set speed" command. Sorry, but you drive
will stay noisy, good luck !

 My concern is not the noise. It's a quiet drive. The problem is that at full 52x, i actually get slower speeds than 8x and the data reading is less reliable.
 I suppose that there is nothing i can do about it?

How can you know if your new drive does not support 8x ?

Have you tried with 16x or 20x or 26x ? Perhaps the drive does support setting speed, but just not the very low speeds.

Bye,
Thomas

@Thomas
 Nah.. i have tried bigger values. All the commands i have tried doesn't produce an error message. WolnyCD for example, reports that the command is accepted by the device but it continues to work at full speed.
