Title: Checksum / Not Validated
Post by: frl9lk on May 19, 2008, 10:10:04 PM
I'm getting checksum errors from a drive (partition actually) that had worked without problem. The other partition is fine. It was backed up so I re-formatted, however I still get the message.

a4000/40; z3 Fastlane; 517M partition on 1G drive

Separate stupid question: on an A2000 Bridgeboard, what is the MSDOS syntax for addressing the HD "C" directory?

The validation business always took a while on my A1200. If it doesn't just do it on it's own, then I don't know.

I'm pretty sure that MSDOS does like    "C:" or "C:\"

 MSDOS ?!?!?

 You mean AmigaDOS, didn't you?

To reach the Command drawer, just type C: or C:/ (normal slash, never backslash!).

@Weird: don't want to disturb you, m8. I know you had a bad day.

[EDIT]: Didn't see the "bridgeboard" word. I think the x86 software will not see any Amiga formatted partition at all. And if it does, it will refuses to read it or, worse,  ask to partition (and format!) it into MS-DOS "acceptable" one... :python:

Actually, I do think I mean MSDOS.  I've never had the dox for the bridgeboard (tho I did have Transformer in the day).

During the BB setup, it appears I was able to set up a directory called C on an Amiga formatted HD. It's confusing (to me) because of course I also have the Amiga C directory on a different [boot]drive. I'm just trying to write a few MSDOS files to an HD properly -- while in the MSDOS environment.

That said, I'd much rather resolve the checksum/validation issue.

Thanks.

l have this, on a one the old amiga 2000 scsi drive l think u have to use quater back tools or disc salve to fix the files and tranfer them to another drive partion.

and then re format the drive .
l dont know l have really only used 1200s with ide
with them u hold down the 2 mouse buttons and boot with no startup seqwence is one way geting them to vaildate.
but think checksum means drive file damage.

this drive is old but think on newer drive its when its wrting to the drive and it gets stoped or the machine crashs cuases these problems.

good luck dude let me know how u fix it.

 Ah, that's a different matter!

 You mean the "C:\" hardfile/partition.

You need to follow the program's instructions. Before the "emulation" starts, you need to create a hardfile OR partition for the "PC" work.

 Read the "readme's"! :rtfm:

Hi,

if you need bridgeboard help, ask  ;-)

if you want to go to the C directory from the roor (C:\), type :
CD C
to leave it  CD ..

For the checksum error, first try to leave your Amiga running for a couple days or more as the AmigaOS has the ability to correct these type of errors, IIRC.

Your MSDOS question has already been answered.

Thanks. When I went to Information, it was reading "Validating" instead of "Read/Write" but I thought it was hung  after several minutes had passed.

Yeah, you won't be able to write to the disk until it is validated.  If it never validates after a few days, the error is not recoverable from and you can only salvage as much information from the drive and reformat it.  Try using Disksalv2 or 3 or another similar type program.

Good luck.
