Title: Amiga 3000

Hi,

Like I've mentioned in some other threads, I recently bought a 3000, it boots fine and runs perfectly but...

1) The rear of the case and some of the connectors have some surface rust.
2) The battery was removed at some stage but way too late, the mobo has suffered quite a lot of damage.
3) The drives all show some surface rust.
4) The LED pcb broke in transit.
5) The two floppy eject buttons are hanging on for dear life.

( I guess I've been spoilt, the 2nd hand 500 and 2000 I bought were both kept in pristine condition, they both look like they just rolled off the factory floor and my 1200 is still as good as when bought new )

I want to restore this Amiga to it's former glory but I would really appreciate some advice:

What is the best way to tackle the surface rust and is there something I can coat with to prevent further rust?

Does anyone want to sell a spare 3000 mobo or know where there may be one for sale?

Can you recommend a good external SCSI CD Drive and what drivers/software will I need ? ( Running WB 3.1)

If the corrosion isn't too excessive, a little WD-40 on a Q-Tip, or even a pink eraser may be enough to remove it. Otherwise, you may need a metal polish, or even some black sandpaper (making sure to keep control of any metal bits). A light metal polish/cleaner like Flitz should keep further corrosion away. (Actually, even something like car wax should work OK at keeping the rust from returning.)

Hi

I guess you're more concerned about the actual green residue from the battery leak. If the machine is working fine then I guess you're hanging on by a thread. The board needs cleaning in this area. But it is a delicate issue. Do you have any way of posting a picture of the damaged area ?

Certainly worth restoring the machine...

As to the 2000.. this has a battery

As to the 500.. this may have one in the trapdoor. Also if A500+ then this too has a battery.

The 2000 & 500's batteries had been removed...

Yeah, I'll try to get a pic up of the damaged area, looks like a bomb site  :-(

Don't loose those floppy eject buttons. I have a few 3000's that are minus the button.
