Title: Booting problems after installing OS3.9
Post by: Phantom on May 03, 2008, 11:15:19 PM
I just installed (again!) AmigaOS 3.9 on my Amiga. I used around 900MB for the first and bootable partition which holds all the necessary files of AmigaOS 3.9.

I used HDToolBox to create this partitions from the emergency disk that came together with the AmigaOS 3.9 cd. I left the default AddBuffers to 80.

My Amiga booted only once, and then in every reboot I see only a black screen.

When I enter the Early Startup Menu, I can see that my partition DH0 is recognisable (scsi.device, unit=0, priority=0). My Amiga can boot up when I use "Boot with no start-up sequence" and then with LoadWB from the shell, I can see the icon of my system partition. I checked the startup-sequence protect options and they are (s-rwed).

Is there any problem with my startup-sequence file? Any ideas? Please help.

If i have a problem with my startup I tend to put error checks  in the startup-sequence to see where the problem is. I do this by simply putting an ECHO command in
So id say Echo 1 after setpatch then Echo2 after the next line and so on.

You can install and start SnoopDOS before the boot. Set the program to save the .log file to the root drawer to see what is coming wrong.

Also try "skipROMupdates" in the setpatch line to help on incompatibilities.

Before I had installed also CyberGraphiX 4.0. Now I installed AmigaOS 3.9 again with no CGX and my Amiga boots again several times. Is that strange? What can cause my Amiga not to boot when I install CFX 4.0? :-?

This happened also with Picasso96 (I tried it now).

When you install OS 3.9 do you apply all the Boing Ball patches and the post patches as well? Are you installing Cybergaphx 4 with latest patch as well/

What video card do you have? Does is support native Amiga mode promotion and are you using the correct output port?

Make sure you are selecting a video mode that the monitor card support.

Is this in your A4000T?

Did you uninstall Cybergfx first, because you cannot
have both installed at the same time.

Surely it's not the AmigaOS 3.9 cd (thanks for the info to try it), but that's strange. Everytime I install P96 or CGX 4.0 my Amiga boots whenever it wants. When I completely remove these two apps my Amiga boots normally. Any ideas what can cause this problem? :-?
