Title: CD32 drive not spinning
Post by: TheMagicM on May 03, 2008, 10:05:49 PM
I took my CD32 out of the box, powers up, get the CD32 screen but when I insert a cd, close the cover, the drive does not spin.  I took it apart and it has I guess a LED type sensor that checks to see if the lid is down (a piece of plastic breaks the signal).

Is there a fix or a test so I can see if its the LED light/sensor or the drive?

hi,
first, when you put the CD in, can you make it spin with you hand easily ?
2nd, when you close the CD door, do you hear some click/click ?
3rd on the laser Block, turn the know, beware it's dangerous!!!

I'll check the schematics for you.

Regarding "3": never look directly in the laser beam with the remaining eye!

Hi,

I recently acquired a very rough-looking CD32 - and it doesn't spin discs either, unless the lid is held down with quite a bit of pressure.

Will look into fixing at some point, but this might be the same as the problem you're seeing...

no I dont hear any clicking.  pressing harder doesnt work for me.  Either the cd drive is bad or the sensor is.
