Hi Amigans, I have asked about VCD playback in the past but I am curious if it is possible to pay just ortdanary music CD's on my main A1200 without too much trouble. It has a Blizz 030 + FPU @ 50Mhz with plenty of RAM, is that enough for this sort of thing?
Woo, 1000th post. :-)

You can play regular audio CD's in any Amiga equipped with a plain 68000 CPU any time you want.
The only problem is the Amiga can't play it through the IDE cable, so you need to route the audio out from the CD to some sort of amplifier, mixer or sound card.

This is it you see, the CD32 manages it fine and I was hoping that it would be the same for the 1200 but it's more complicated. I was worried that a soundcard will be needed, is there any way that the audio can play through the Amiga's phonos?

Not true. You can play CDs using the paula chip at 14bit resolution. Your CPU is fast enough for this. There are several tools on Aminet that can do this. This command for example:
http://aminet.net/disk/cdrom/cdda.lha

Songplayer and possible other players also can play the audio through the ide interface

AsimTunes is another player that can play over the data lines.
Or you can hook up some speakers or headphones to the jack on the front of the CD drive.
