Title: Can't recognize my Hard Drive...
Post by: Phantom on April 28, 2008, 04:39:01 PM
LOL! I solved one problem, here comes another one. I'm the most unlucky people I think. :boohoo:

I turned on my A1200 today, but nothing. I see only the boot screen (with the disk). It doesn't want to boot via my 2.5" hard drive. What is happening? Everything was used to be normal last night, when I switched off my Amiga.

I enter the Early Startup Menu, and I saw that my Amiga don't want to recognize my HD anymore, not even the partitions. I see only DF0: and CC0:. That's strange!

Anyway, to finish up, my hard drive spins at the reset but nothing afterwards.

Any ideas? It will much appreciated. :boohoo:

Can you boot from floppy and run a partition editor? That will allow you to see whether or not the drive is visible.

Yes. I did that. I run HDInstTools and I saw that the app recognizes my hard drive. But the partitions are vanished. :-? So I lost everything I pressume, right?

How big is the hdd and which filesystem are you using?

The HDD is 40GB, but used only the first 8GB (as my Amiga recognizes). I used FFS, I didn't have time to install SFS.

What version of FFS? What version of Amiga OS? What hardware is it connected to?

In other words, did you make sure you are safe to write above 4GB?

The version of FFS that was inside the 3.1 Workbench disks. I have also a Blizzard 030.

But my Amiga recognizes 8GB (Ok, I know that), but I had one partition (bootable) less than 1GB and another about 2GB. That's all. So I occupied less than 3GB.

I think you somehow whipped the RDB by writing above the 4 GB limit.

So, is there any solution to recover that, or I must start from the beginning? :boohoo:

And how I can avoid that in the future?

You might try RDBRecov from Aminet, but I don't know if it will do you anything good.

To avoid problems in the future, you can do a lot. Install IDEfix97 (even though you don't have the hardware) or any other updated scsi.device, use SFS or PFS as filesystem, and use check4gb from Aminet to check if it has been set up correctly before actually using your drive.

I will try this, thanks doctorq.

My scsi.device was updated to 43.23 (?) I think. But I didn't use SFS as filesystem.
