Hello everyone,
Craig here, one of the people on the openpandora.org team.
We are all massive Amiga fans and were wondering if any of you had opinions on our new handheld machine?
We were very much influenced by the spirit of the Amiga while making the Pandora.
It runs Linux but it should have no trouble emulating an A1200 full speed.
We are looking for any developers who might be interested in working on some of our beta units, several of which will be free to a good cause.
Well, let us know, good or bad.
Thanks,
Craig

It looks promising, will it be available in the UK in high street stores or Internet only?

I think the device looks awesome. A definite potential upgrade from my GP2X. It's cool to know that the developers are Amiga fans :-)

Nice little device!

Link for the Lazy please.

It looks bloody awesome, that's what it does. I want one. Oh, yes.
-
I'm eager for the release of this product, and very eager to see what Amiga related software comes out for it.
I'm curious why AROS or MorphOS could not be ported directly to it...
...Amiga OS 4 for that matter.
Regardless, emulation of the A1200 would be a wonderful thing too!
The best of luck to you, and I'm sure I'll be buying one if it really comes out!!!

looks awesome! and a nice price too!!!! and I bet it can emulate psx so it is super-cool!

Link (http://openpandora.org/) for the Lazy. :-D

Thanks everyone, nice to hear you like the system.
There is no reason why Amiga OSs could not be ported as long as the source is available and isn't too CPU specific.
If someone wanted to do that you are very welcome to have a go, but for now we will have A500/A1200 running at a silky smooth speed.
We really hope a lot of the Amiga scene will get involved with the Pandora, its specs are pretty similar in comparison to the Amiga dropping in to the C64 and Spectrum world back in the 80s :)
Thanks,
Craig

There is a bounty on Teamaros for Port AROS to ARM Phase I - Linux Hosted (http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/?number=39), would the pandora fit within that bounty??

well done craig. i like the final name of it. i've had a eye out on it for ages. i like the design better than the gp2x. as i had some small issues with that. (just where the power supply plugged in and the joypad. but was great in all other respects.) those with an eye out for emulation and portability are in the know about such devices beleive me. i have a gp2x, psp, jxd 301 (for playing "rm" files), gameboy. gameboy color, gameboy sp, nintendo ds. soon pandora!
can you confirm exactly when the consumer release date is. sometime in summer? i think i may be coming into enough money for it soon! i'm hoping i can play real media files on it at some point. this is better than a eee pc imho.
once more well done.

looks very cool!
I would be very interested if you could use music making software and do midi sequencing etc..
What are the plans for sound (ie input/output) and midi interface devices?

It's cute.

Whatever the hell those are, cute ain't it. (penguins?) Looks like diseased monsters on acid with those dilated eyes.

That would be the first step towards getting AROS ported to ARM. Which would be a good thing .

For your own good, we can't tell you - it'd be a spoiler. It probably hasn't got to your shores (the US) yet. Chances are you'll see it sometime soon and it'll all make sense!
In the meantime if you have to know, do a Google search for "Adipositivity".

They're Adipose from Doctor Who, Series 4 (or Series 30 depends on your POV), Episode 1, "Partners in Crime."

I will most likely get one. Should go well with my train trips to work and back.
Is there a difference between the developer and consumer versions?
I do a lot of SDL stuff but I'm guessing you have plenty of people to work on those ports already.

MorphOS and especially Amiga OS4 (Licensing issues) are PPC only. So forget this systems on an ARM Based device. And I also think closed source for such niche systems is the wrong way and these systems have no future.
For AROS there is an ARM Bounty, but, as far as i know, no one work on it. Hopefully this will change in the future, because I think AROS would be a good system for small devices.
