I would now like to add PPC support to my OS, what is the proper way to do this.... by use of the AmigaOS 3.9 cd or by use of the driver cd for my CSPPC card ??
Also, should I install the things from the SCSI floppy and CD that came with the card ??
-
Only 2-3 system files of AmigaOS 3.9 contains dual PPC/68k code. The rest of the OS is 68k.
What you need to do primarily is to install WarpOS from Aminet and then the PUP emulation system. This way you will have access to both WOS and PUP executables.
Then, you can install PPC native datatypes, mpega.library, etc.
-
hmmm ok... let's suppose I stick with OS 3.9 and might want to use a few apps and games that can utilize the PPC, I'd have to install PPC support then, right ??
If that is the case, should I use the floppys that come with the card or the OS 3.9 cd ??
-
WarpOS=PPC support for WOS apps. PUP is PowerUP which is another way of PPC on AOS.
So just install WarpOS to use WOS PPC program and PUP emulation if you want to use PUP PPC apps.
-
ok... but to do that would it be better to use the floppies that came with the card or the OS 3.9 cd ??
-
Like AmigaMance said use the one from Aminet; it will be the most recent. WarpOS (most common PPC support) is not on the floppies that came with your PPC card and the version on the OS3.9 cd is older.
-
ah, ok :) thanks for being patient with a noob :)
-
I just looked on Aminet and the files are called Warpup 4.0 and then you need the 5.1 update as well. Just search for Warpup. You can also install v5 from the OS3.9 cd and then use the 5.1 update. Most important is you use the update.
-
Ok, thanks :) Now I wonder what the PUP emulator file is called ??
EDIT: Found it on the PowerUp website :)
-
Hmmm, I just installed WarpOS up to v 5.1 and then added PPCLibEmu also.
When I reboot the systems hangs right after showing the icons on WB, the background is still grey and the mouse cursor is not moveable (and showing the busy clock symbol).
I installed the v 14 of WarpOS, should I have chosen the v 7 when installing PPCLibEmu also ??
-
have you ever tested this CSPPC (the PPC part) personally? have you got it used?
It would be better to be 100% sure that the card is fully working simply installing the original ppc.library in Libs: (reboot) and try a PowerUP tool
-
I never tested it, no. I'll try your suggestion!! :)
Which tools are PowerUP tools ??
-
onto your PowerUP CD, should be present some.
checking now ...
try the PPCTool or Mountains in CD0:PPCRelease/PPC-Demo/
i.e if PPCTools starts, your ppc part/CPU is ok
-
When I double clicked the Mountains tool it said "Cannot open ppc.library" and double clicking the PPCTool resulted in nothing happening.
I guess that means my PPC isn't working??
-
unfortunately yes :-(
of course you removed ALL the WarpUP components? (Powerpc.library WarpHW.library)
and be 100% sure to have the ORIGINAL ppc.library ONLY (not the ppc.library emul found on that site)
-
I removed Powerpc.library and warphw.library and installed the ppc.library from the floppy that comes with the card.
are there any settings in the early boot menu that might cause the ppc cpu not to work ?? (I haven't changed any settings though)
-
nope, sorry.
i got exacly the same behaviour with one of mine.
Sold/traded then as CSMKIII :-/
-
are there any people who do repairs on CSPPC boards and how much should I expect that it would cost ??
