Hi
I have just downloaded and installed the latest Ubuntu offered on their website, version 7.10, and I am extremely impressed with it and can see myself migrating to this as my primary OS. However there are a few minor niggles which I was wondering whether anyone could help with.
The audio - I get sound but the quality isnt too good compared to my Windows install, also even when the Master volume is muted, programs still generate sound unless I mute those as well.
Another pretty annoying thing is the speakers are switched off yet the sound still manages to get through and makes no difference if the speakers are on and the volume is adjusted, the volume remains the same which is kind of not loud but not quiet.
If I put headphones into the headphone input it makes no difference at all.
i was wondering whether anyone could talk me through getting a normal speaker setup working with Ubuntu, it is nothing fancy just 2 plain stereo speakers, and headphones which I plug into the computer when I need to be quiet.
Many thanks :-)

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that. I use mine for quite a bit of audio too, I might have to use Windows for that :(
Some progress.. the speakers do effect the volume, its just when the speakers are off there is still some sound instead of silence... I guess I can live with it.

Sounds like it might be using the built-in speaker sound ATM. that's why it sounds rather bad, and works even with speakers off... ;-)

I was thinking that
Do you think it might even be using speakers in my Acer LCD? (not sure if it has any)
Anyway, found a new problem it doesn't support my Canon Pixma iP1200 printer :-( i tried using other Canon iP drivers but all I get is a flashing printer light for a few seconds.. XP continues to print with it fine so its not the printer..
Hopefully in the next release it will support it, searched Canon's site, no joy
