I just thought I would make a thread about Amiga Emulation on the Asus EEE Pc.

Set Up: winuae, KS/WB 3.1, classicWB P96
This is the current set up I am using and it works very well indeed.

I have seen this running on a laptop in a forum but I think its the linux version have not seen it working with windows.
Amiga Forever - http://www.amigaforever.com/
http://www.amigaforever.com/news-events/20080115eee/gfx/eee_480x640.jpg
Planned for realease in 2008. Development remains intense on additional features and add-ons, and more surprise announcements are planned for 2008.
Amithlon - http://www.amigawiki.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/Amithlon

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/4640/file0016jq3.jpg
I have never used aminthlon so I tried to boot the cd and got to a section with a bouncing ball. I have got to the stage it displays this message :
Reboot in progress. Phase 1 (68040 Soft Reset)
Reboot in progress. Phase 2 (GFX Reset)
Reboot in progress. Phase 5 (emulator crash?)
AROS - http://aros.sourceforge.net/
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3310/file0017ja9.jpg
I thought I would try the Aros live cd and it only reached the screenmode selection as none of the screen modes are supported. A bounty has been made for Aros on EEE.
AmiKit - http://amikit.amiga.sk/
Working on EEE Pc check this topic for a guide on how to run it in correct screenmode

I also have an Asus EEE PC, earlier model: 701.
(Sky Blue) - 2GB Surf. Got it for $299
Additional Accessories I use:
Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive (the cheapest USB DVD player)
I bought it for $30.
Microsoft Keyboard - USB for Amiga gaming. (Asus keys are too small)
SD Cards to swap out game and workbench adfs.
I have XP running on this, I just hate the Linux distro that came with this. I cannot install Amiga Forever 2006, (space limitations) in Windows XP but managed to get WINUAE running instead, works fine and runs at full speed.
Been playing Agony on it and the sound rocks.
:-)
I will try superfrog on this.
Deluxepaint works fine too.
Demos work too.

I have the 4Gb surf model, and I got UAE to compile quite nicely on it.
I am, however, disappointed that the *nix version is UAE is not up to par with WinUAE. Anyone have any insight into how to make it a nice as WinUAE?
SCUMM works absolutely great, and I'm busy working through "Beneath a Steel Sky."

I never figured out to run UAE from linux. I know a bit of Linux commands, but I haven't managed to install UAE packages especially in Xandros.
My Asus eee pc 701 gives me 314MB space after a factory install. Windows XP SP1 generally gives you 851MB back.
I think thats why Amiga Forever didn't want to install, it needs at least 630MB plus additional 200MB for the setup file to sit there during install.
WINUAE or UAE just eats about less than 10MB along with kickstarts and workbench.
Now if I could only have WB 3.1 read my Xbox 360 HDDVD as a CDrom, that would be great.

I'm going to have to do this. I have a white 8Gb eee with Xubuntu running on it. I'd love to get an Amiga system running on an SD card. How do applications like Deluxe Paint, Lightwave, etc. work on this? I must confess I haven't paid attention to the Amiga simulation scene while I have been tinkering with classic Amiga hardware the last couple of years.

@ Mbrantley
Not sure how UAE works in linux as i have never used it. I am using winUAE on windows xp. I simply load the rom file pick a hdf (hardfile) and load in some of the adf (programs or games i want) by right clicking on the system tray icon when its winuae is working. This means i can run and install many programs like dpaint and other greats.
So far i have installed octamed sound studio with only one issue which is slight keyboard delay but other then that it runs very well. All this can be ran off a usb stick or sd card.

Hmmm....instead of the EEE PC, I went with this HP because of some of the features.

Even though it has a SATA hard drive, tt has an SD slot too. So now after seeing this, I'm wondering if I can setup a nice Amiga emulation that boots right from the card. I really like that AmigaSYS 3 you posted.
It comes with SUSE Linux and I plan to keep it on there. But have never tried getting Amiga emulation going in Linux. But I do know Linux, so maybe that will help.

@ novaburst
Looks like a nice machine I like the look of it. Yeah I would also like to run the amigasys on eee pc but as I have xp installed i cannot run the linux amigasys. I am sure updates are going to come out for the pre configured system. The demmand is there and they just fit notebooks so perfectly. The only issue is screenmode so if there was a way of forcing them to open in a mode with scrolling it would be a cool temp fix or edit a ini file or something (I am new to uae).

You can install UAE on the eeePC using the debian repositories (using apt-get it's one of the included debian packages), and if you want the latest version, continue on and install gcc, stdc++ libs, sdl (and some other stuff) and compile it from source.

Now, mine is kinda wonkey, I really can't configure it as nicely as with WinUAE. I'm thinking I'll put Windows XP on my eeePC (4Gb Surf) and use that, even though I'm a big Linux geek.

Yay I have now managed to get AmiKit fully working on my EEE Pc :)
Here is a guide on how to change the settings for the 800 x 480 screenmode.
1) First download and install amikit http://amikit.amiga.sk/
2) Install roms and operating system with standard installer in 800 x 600 screenmode
3)Close amikit after instalation and the click on the amikit icon then click configure WinUAE then change the values to screenshot to the ones in the pic
(http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/1840/settingsec2.jpg)
save the settings to the winuae config u are using.
4) Load amikit and use fn + f6 to go to windows and use the Asus EEE Pc utility to change windows mode to LCD 800 x 600 (Do this if you need to move the amikit screen about)
5) Open Morpheuz and change the enviroment to Workbench
(http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/5868/enviroci6.jpg)
6) When amikit restarts open "amikit" and then "prefs" and select screenmode
(http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/537/modecp9.jpg)
save screenmode and exit
7) Then (still in the prefs folder) select "ShowAmiga96_prefs" convert image to the settings on the picture below and save
(http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/2766/selectcx0.jpg)
8) Restart amikit and play away :D + make sure u have you cd drive plugged in when u load amikit
Now it should look like this:

That is great. I have used Amikit for a short while and it is great. I just learned you could get onto the web with it.
Aint I behind? :-D

@amigakidd
Oooh! Why didn't I think of that? LOL. I've been sighing over my external dvd writer being firewire but never thought about the HD DVD drive I have hooked up to the 360. Maybe I should see if I can pick up an extra as they are cheap when you can find them and they are quite nice drives :)
Thanks for the tip! Now I'm off to find my Amiga Forever cd.
