Hello everyone!
I just wanted to let you all know I recently purchased this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260223544677) on eBay and used a DB-23 to VGA-15 adapter (such as those provided with the Amiga 3000 and 4000) and it behaves as the perfect external flicker fixer for the Amiga.
Works both in NTSC and PAL, supports overscan, uses enough display resolution bits for full compatibility with AGA.
Just wonderful! Love it!

Good find man!. I may have to pick one of those up. It even does wide screen :-o
-
But how does it look on an LCD ?
Tried it ?, does it Scan double properly ?
-
Looks nice! Not a whole lot cheaper than a dedicated Amiga scandoubler, but it has the distinct advantage of being available.
Can you post some photos/reports of it in action? I'm curious to see how it reacts to SuperHiRes, Super72, and Multiscan screenmodes.

I'd love to see Circuit schematics :-D

Here is the company site:

Yeah,
I had just bought one of these last week after my KVideo LCD TV box was found to be lacking, but had not got around to posting how I got on with it.
I cant comment on the AGA compatibility (Im sure AlexH will be able to say whether its yay or nay ;-) ), but it seems ok. I wasnt able to confirm any of the other monitor modes.
Regardless it will tide me over till Jens scandoubler arrives :-)

So...how does it look?
What computer is it attached to?
What resolutions are you using?
Thanks for the info...this could be a great find :-)

Good, so you won't mind taking it apart tonight so we can see what chips they used!
-
Another thingy like that one:
http://www.blackbox.com/Catalog/Detail.aspx?cid=1578,1869,1872&mid=5280
but even more expensive
:-(
-
Is it as good screen quality as then the dedicated ones?
-
I'll take some pics tonight and put them up when I get home... either using my A1200 or A4000.

Ha! I'll still need it for my A4000, unless Jens is thinking of developing a scandoubler/flickerfixer for that model too! :-)
-
damn it man..ive been going bloody nuts waiting/looking for one of these :-o :-D
have you tried it on AGA games yet???
-
Nice find... But where does one find a cable to connect this to my A1200?
-
@ trip6
It's a plain VGA input so a "standard" 23pin->15pin adapter should do the trick. They're fairly common at dealers. You'll probably lose genlocking capabilities, as only a few dedicated boxes have the required circuitry (much harder to find).
-
If this works well, it would be better than a neobitz s-video mod, you think? It is VGA output after all.

It's a Cypress CM-397 (http://www.cypress.com.tw/product.php?PId=87936&CId=010&CName=PC%20Multimedia/Scan%20Converters&SR=0).
They have been discussed several times on Amiga.org
They are 16-bit scandoublers (at best, more like 12-14 in reality) so you loose colours in AGA and they automatically scan-rate convert 50Hz screens to 60Hz screens destroying smooth scrolling in PAL.
But they are available now, they work with LCD monitors.

Dont be down folks its still great for OCS\ECS computers for those of you that have those ,,,
@TheGoose
That neoblitz card is impossible to get hold of as the guy who sells them stopped answering emails .. Also Rgb should be far better for picture quality than plain S-vid ...

S-Video and YUV (component) are good solutions for any Amiga, but they blocks the possibility of using high resolutions (goodbye DBL and VGA modes) in TV's. I'm designing a RGB to YUV converter myself.
But for games they are simply great!
When the board are done I'll make an announcement.:-D
PS: I'm intending to put the board inside an A520 box for better Amiga-looking, so be patient!

@rkauer
Wow, you go man.
I guess I'll consider myself lucky I got a neobitz board. He responded to me not too long ago.
