The title already says it all:

What software do I need to join several AVI movies from my digicam on Amiga with OS 3.9?

Wouldn't it depend on what codec was used to create the AVI?

Most likely DV, or if the camera is reasonably new, HDV.

I am afraid I am unfamiliar with Amiga video editing/capturing software, however it may be possible (if rather slow) using ffmpeg.

How can I find out what codec is used for the clips?
(Hint: The only player I have on the Amiga that can play the clips is AMP2)

I don't know on the Amiga. But if you have access to a PC you can open the file in Quicktime and bring up the Movie Inspector, and it will tell you how it was encoded (whether or not it can play it). You could also do this on a Mac. There is also an app for Windows called G-Spot which will give detailed information about which codec was used.
