Title: A4000 up and running again..but
Post by: duesi on August 09, 2003, 07:47:09 PM
Finally I got a new Motherboard for my A4000D
Installed it and all is working fine. Except the brand new X-Surf2 Card (my old X-Surf busted my Mobo)

When the card is installed (and recognized in the early Startup Menu) my A4091 SCSI dosen't boot !
(Also the Partitions in early startup disappear)

When I remove the card everything is fine..
but I need the network !  ;-)
Any suggestions ?

Try to swap the 2 cards around.

Should have no impact, but in my old A2000 it DID matter how I
had all those cards in the slots ....
(The A4000D(T) isn't that picky sofar).

You have my sympathies about the XSurf killing a 4000.  I had one go bad in mine, too.  :-(  Fortunatly, mine didn't cause any permanent harm to the 4000, though.

I picked up one of the ancient C= 2065 cards for cheap.  As crazy as it sounds, it runs circles around what the XSurf could do in speed, and it's rock solid.  (Albeit runs a bit hot, though...  A small heat sink and a little re-routed fan air took care of that, though... I'm paranoid about conditions for my old 4000, now... it's seriously pampered)

But, honestly, I've heard good things about the VillageTronic network card, and even the old 2065 works for me...  I know it's a bum deal to have to buy a used card for almost the price of a new one...  But, to me, it seems like there is a reason the older cards hold their value........

If swapping the cards to different slots doesn't work, I'd probably fix the problem by avoiding the XSurf for a different card.

Tried with another Motherboard
same effect ! It seems that the X-Surf2 and A4091
dosen't work together...

Have you replaced the mobo only, or the daughtercard too?

Ciao

In what order are the cards inserted in your A4000? I had the same problem with an A4091 and X-surf (first version). I wanted to have the A4091 in the top slot of the A4000D and stick an extra harddrive on it, but for some weird reason it refused to boot when a zorro2 board was before it on the zorro bus, so I moved it to slot no. 2, above my P-IV, and inserted the Delfina and Xsurf above it (after it on the bus), and everything works fine.

Try this.... it might work.
