Hi! all just to follow up on my cyberstorm ppc prob (the card boots and shows cpu as 060 but no memory appears apart from 16meg fast ram). Well I sent the board over to the Amiga Centre in France and JJ had a look at it and could,nt fix it, he mentioned a "memory bug" ??? whatever that is, is this common on ppc boards its a Phase5 by the way and would it be possible to map the memory manually by using the Addmem command in conjunction with the memory location, if so given that the 4000 has 16 meg fast can anyone assist me with the parrameters for the location.Failing this is there any other method I can use to jumpstart the memory it would be a great pity to lose the card because of this fault.

Hi again bigmac. Rather suprised to hear about this from JJB tbh!?
Wtf is a memory Bug?? Either the memory controller works in conjunction with the rest of the hardware or it doesn`t....surely!?
I have 3 x PPC cards here & all are fine with all kinds of Memory module, including Parity & non-parity modules. Same with my Warp Engine 040/40 & all the modules on all my cards are 60ns.
As a matter of recapping, what speed & type of module are you using?
Have you tried a smaller simm size on the card?
Have you removed the Mobo`s fast ram & tried? Do this & try with 2 modules in alternate slots on the PPC.
Just seems rather pathetic all round tbh! :-?
There may be something about using a matched set of modules on the PPC card, but I have used 2 pairs of Different modules on the same card without issues. They were different Brands of module & one pair had Parity chips on em & the other pair didn`t. There are so many permutations but if JJB cant get it to work, wtf?
Looking back over your earlier thread here:
Linky (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35484)
It was working before you pulled the card to Install OS3.1 & failed to when you put it back in.
Were you putting the PPC card back into the same miggy?
That said, one of two things have happened:
1) You discharged Static into some component or other that fux0rd it, but JJB should have discovered this
2) The Slot Connector isnt making contact when pushed into the mobo
It just can`t be anything else if it was working right before you pulled it.
darksun9210 seems all clued up on the Memory Mapping in the Miggys, but that doesn`t change the fact it was working before the pull.
Jfyi too, there really is no need to pull a PPC card to install 3.1. On an A4KT miggy, you will ned the Specific A4KT 3.1 Disks. A4KD 3.1 Install disk doesn`t have enough Info. A4KT 3.1 installs without issue & all you have to do is copy the relevant Libs to your Hard drive partition. Game over.
Further still & afaik, you can clean Install OS3.5 & OS3.9 without messing around with 3.1. It`s a while since I did it & the only problem I recall having was not having the A4KT 3.1 Installation Floppy. The 3.1 Install disk from my A4KD just stopped at a blank Workbench prompt & nothing would execute.
This has been a total bummer for you all round m8. You have my sincere sympathies!
*Edit*
Not pimping a sale, but I have 2 PPC cards going for sale real soon & offer you first Shout if you find no solution & desperately want a replacement. Both are 604e`s with 128Mb 60ns ram, both are 50Mhz 060`s & one is a 200Mhz PPC, the other a 233. They are both mint, fully functional & run OS4.0 classic without issue.
Cheers mate, ....I`ll have a couple of cold ones for you tonight. ;-)
*edit* Try assembling the Miggy on a workbench out of the box. When you seat the PPC onto the mobos slot connecter, really pay attention to no curve in the mobo & no curve in the PPC card. Be exactly sure the plastic edges of the 2 mating connectors are perfectly paralell. A couple of extra thosands of an inch of contact could make ALL the difference to the Ram being seen or not, but again, I`m sure JJB would have done this. I have done this before & gotten cards working that were presumed DEAD all together. ;-)
