Title: NEW OWB version for 68k available !!
Post by: 0amigan0 on April 12, 2008, 11:01:54 AM
Jorg Strohmayer has released version 1.2 of OWB browser for 68k!
Grab it here:
http://strohmayer.org/sfs/download.php/OWB_m68k.lha

In this version he fixed the keyboard input problem.

This just keeps getting better and better.

Given the slow pace of development of AWeb and IBrowse, OWB looks like the only viable web browser for M68K Amigas.

Can't wait for the next update!

Nice!! I hope that Unicode support will be introduced in the 68k version as well.

It's based on SDL right? I think SDL on 68k Amigas is very slooooow...

This is great news for UAE/future Natami users. I hope they keep it up. They will probably have triple the users of the OS4 version when its really usable.

are there (m)any natami users yet?

I guess that's down to about two persons, Gunnar and Thomas ;-).

It's rather acceptable under WinUAE running on a 2.4 GHz PC (single core).

@spihunter:well, thanks, thats my point. otherwise im really fond a(both) natami and owb 68k (and other developments). even if i have to revide my previous opinion of ppc/os4 as useless, given my late experience with some software on aos i would wissssh to run .. a little faster. but i suppose i willm manage another several months without an upgrade. sigh..

It still doesn't work for me. Anybody know what the Openlibrary "" is about? It actually returns an address. Maybe a bug in Snoopy?

Is this still being developed? I say because now there is a better SDL

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=69103

BTW it doesn't work for me either. I've tried AmiKit or AKReal and it only wastes fast ram without starting.

no, in fact it has never been developed for amiga (68k), the compiles here were only meant as a blatant demonstration that it would not work or work so poorly that it doesnt pay to bother.

in the meantime the development has been given up also on os4 where the port originates from and the sources are locked away, so that none can do anything about it.

as actually working alternatives for amiga there are two possibilities so far: netsurf port by artur, which is available from aminet and aros owb which is also based on sdl, while actually working and providing a simple but complete user interface. to run it you have to run aros68k though.

Thank you. But here there are three posts saying it was working and reasonably well for emulation, that's why I've asked.

Future Natami users?
You are SUCH an optimist.

Future FPGA based Amiga users, sure.

So basically all Amiga OS3, OS4, and MorphOS users will be using related web browsers?
Cool.

It's a necro thread dug up from the grave. The Natami looked very promising in 2008 as the MX board was doing well in testing.

But what I want to know is does it work or not? Because some were saying it works, that's a simple question. If it works I would like to try it with a fast emulation with PPC that we've got now.

Necro thread, good description.

Living dead threads, what next.

Oh well, other FPGA projects proceed, albeit slowly.

this is a thread from 2008. what do you think, when none is posting about this in the meantime? right. it doesnt work satisfactory. i was one of the first to try, it especially on actual amiga, as i usually do. i did even have some communication about it with joerg afair, so far its applicable. but none stops you to try for yourself seven years later.

btw. ppc emu under uae doesnt speed up your 68k. except you run os4 which is anyway slower, because it emulates 68k itself. hope you realize.

As I recall, I had it working mostly and slowly (it is slower than NetSurf). I believe it doesn't like some versions of ixemul.library (latest version from Bernd was best?). There seems to be a problem with the CPU being busy constantly, even at idle. It was beta quality at best and not worthwhile. Try NetSurf for the most modern 68k Amiga browser.

i doubt it works with any of bernds ixemul libs. probably its geared towards 48.0 or 48.2 i dont remember...

Ok, so it's obsolete in any case. Thanks.

Yes I know a BPPC doesn't speed up things on WinUAE, I don't know why I said that example, it was just the config I was trying.

There's also my alpha NetSurf with a proper UI, but it's slow and unstable. I've fixed some bad startup crashes, but I'm getting mad graphical corruption (flickery screen, complete crash) which I need help with, along with fixing an optimisation bug. I'll post a new download at some point, I'm waiting for the current JS work to stabilise.
