Though it's old news, I'm excited about it. Of course any good Amigan is going to be sceptical considering all the unfulfilled promises of new Amiga hardware over the years, but I have a good feeling about this one. At the very least I like their philosophy. If they can reach their goals, I for one would buy one.

Whatever they make you can guarantee it wont be cheap. I think we are looking at prices beyond that of a standard medium cost PC.

I paid £399 for my Amiga back in 1989ish.... If all that is promised is delivered, I would pay that again today....  :-)

I'm excited to grab one too, regarding the (probably) high prices.

But, this time it will be a real Amiga computer...

 Or not...

I'd buy any 100% compatible new Amiga hardware. I'm holding back on Minimig because it's not that compatible (although it's beeing worked on and ECS is about to show up)

However, a compatible Amiga with superior speed and capabilities beyond what the AGA chipset does, that's my girl.

I am saving to buy one. I made a choice that i would not buy anymore old Amiga's (after the A3000). I am looking forward for the NatAmi and CloneA and will be saving to buy both.
Ok so they maybe the same price as a mid PC, but big deal Medium PC don't last that long anyway and i would rather buy a New Amiga (Clone) any day.

Part of the price pronlem is the limited size of the audience.  An Amiga clone is going to sell in the hundreds, you can't get any price breaks for that small a run.  PCs and Macs sell in the millions.

Retro-computing isn't cheap, it's a hobby and the hundreds of Amiga fans will gladly pay more for something that isn't living on borrowed time.

Dear Amigans:

I am also very interested in buying this new amiga. It seems to me that old amiga hardware -accelerators, etc- is already very expensive and hard to find. A new amiga you will be able to buy, it will be much faster and more powerful, and it will not cost much more than the hard to find old amiga desktops.

With its 060 it's way too slow for me to be interesting. If it had a recent PPC CPU and OS4 compatibility I would start considering it.

Maybe, NatAmi 2?

Anyway, I will buy one for sure, if it will be as they say so.

I would have to say "Count me in!"  Some new Amiga hardware would be great.  I could put some of my old Amiga pieces up to preserve them.

As far as price, I don't think it would be any different if the Commodore Amiga was on sale in 2008 vs 1988.  Adjusted for inflation, the cost is really the same.  I paid about $1000US for my A500 with 1MB, extra floppy, monitor, and printer back then.

Please keep the info coming on this project.

Hmm sounds very interesting. I think that most of us here are ready to spend a lot of money on some new amiga hardware.  :-)

If they can truly deliver a "Super Amiga" design with the onboard ethernet, improved graphics SuperAGA, faster blitter, 90mHz 68060 plus the possibility to add faster, more modern CPUs at a later date, 16mb chip RAM and 256mb or more Fast RAM I think they will have something I would be interested in buying and developing for.

It might not be as fast as a PPC OS4 machine, but it could be a better starting place than an old Classic Amigas to add a more modern CPU and OS4 and/or MorphOS.

If this realy takes ioff then I am in for one myself.
I have not got this far by doing nothing else to an Amiga.

This product is confusing people.

I think its supposed to be a replacment for the classic line not a state of the art new PC.

If you want a cool new faster then any current Amiga but still compatible, then this is probably for you.

If you want a quad core PPC running OS4 then good luck to you. It will probably never happen.

Everyone else can be happy with the current Amiga or Modern PC running UAE.

@spihunter,

Yes, I agree, but it is also new hardware that provides an expansion CPU slot that can lead to many different configurations.  One of which could be OS4/MorphOS.  Another direction is an enhanced 68k OS3.9.  Since AmigaOS4.x is already taken and AmigaAnywhere2 is stated to be AmigaOS5, where do we go to name the enhanced version of 68k AmigaOS3.9?

How about OpenAmigaOS1.0?

I for one hope this pans out. I'm already saving my pennies :)
It next to impossible to find Amiga hardware in South Africa as it is - and importing off e-bay or other is financially impossible! I'm still struggling to find a video card and accelerator for my a2000 that is not priced out of the stratosphere! New hardware would definitely be a good thing - I'd gladly pay the price of a mid range pc for it , if it delivers as promised.

I like it.  Maybe call it the Amiga 5000.  I will definitely buy one if it ever gets produced.

Well, we can't expect to be able to use the name Amiga in the new name.  How about SuperAGA2008, or AAA2008? :-D

If it has what is promised I will buy one.

I actually e-mailed them a week ago and they confirmed that the initial dev board has 2 ide ports and a battery backed clock. Simple things, but it doesn't state it on the web page.

If this sells for £400 I would call it a bargain based on piecing together a comparable setup if the current ebay prices are anything to go by,

I'm buying one, too - no doubt about it.  Not just for the hardware, but also to support to those that tugs the Amiga boat in the right direction.

Keep up the good work, guys.

As a Minimig owner I'm behind that at the moment but I'm very interested in NatAmi progress too. By the time the NatAmi is available to us the Minimig should be a mature A500 replacement, so we'll have standard and high end Amiga compatibles available. All in all can't be bad!
