G'DAy all.
I came across Nigel Mansell World championship on my hard drive the other day, a game I haven't seen for about 8 or 9 years ago. On my 40 mhz 68040 A1200 this game is fantastically playable and looks great also.
I wondered why no-one had mentioned before..I then played it on my A500 and found it unplayably slow. Maybe thats why, never played on a "high-end" amiga.
So I'd like to try out a few other racing games and would appreciate some recommendations of your favourites and why.

I always thought that Mansell game was under rated. My fave by far is Crazy Cars 3 (though American Challenge version should be even better with 2 player option).

Microprose F1 grandprix. 4 disks of fun that lasted me for ages. It brings a tear to my eye. :) Of course its hard to go past the Lotus Esprit Turbo challenge games.
-
I prefer real race so Out Run and Turbo Out Run are cool!
-
1.) Lotus 2
2.) Streed Rod 1
3.) Vroom
-
Interesting.. have to try that Mansell's :)
But for the best racing games I still play are Stunt Car Racer (really fun in serial linkup with several players and hotlapping in single player), SuperCars2, Nitro and Super Skidmarks (8 players linkup!).
If we count Amiga compatibles, Virtual Grand Prix 2 for MorphOS is the best and most professional simulator. It's absolutely great with USB racing wheel.

Indianapolis 500: The Simulation
-
For me it's a tie between Stunt Car Racer and Street Rod. Jaguar XJ220 is probable next down the line for me.
-
Test Drive (1) was always my favorite, but for the only reason that there was a Lamborghini Countach in it
but, tbh., Lotus 3 and Supercars 2 (and many other top-down racing games) are my favorites game-wise.
-
I think my favorite racing game isnt even a racing game, but its definitely got the best car control and racing type than any other game on the Amiga:
Batman The Movie (the Car scene)
2nd would be Crazy Cars 3
Lotus games are all Wayyyyy overrated, you dont even actually control the darn car....your actually moving the screen.....so it doesnt feel right.

1. Street rod
2. Out run

Crazy Cars 3 isn't that much different from Lotus considering that. Point is with lotus the 2 player mode. Me and a friend of mine spent hours playing Lotus 3, the tension of whether to fuel or not, the bumping of the other from the road (or just to not let him get past you). Single player is indeed rather mediocre. Nowadays racing games are soooo much better than the race games back then (except for those top-down racing games) though we still play lotus so every now and then, dunno why. It's a pity this fuel thing isn't part of modern games.

1: No Second Prize - the fastest (?) vector-based racing game with probably the best 'feel'
2: Super Hang-On - an excellent arcade conversion and a real adrenaline-pumper!
-
1. Lotus Trilogy (especially Lotus 2)
2. Indianapolis 500
3. Nitro (great game and great multiplayer fun).
I liked the replays of Indy 500 (when I bought the extra 0.5MB RAM card for my A500).
-
In no particular order some of my favourites are
Lotus Esprit
Supercars 2
Test Drive 2
Jaguar XJ220
Indy 500
Stuntcar Racer
Chase HQ
Turbo Outrun
Microprose F1
Nitro
Skidmarks
F1 by Domark
The Amiga has some excellent racing games.
-
No second prize is definately worth a look.
F1GP
Nitro
Supercars 1 and 2
Lotus 1,2,3
Jaguar Xj220
{bleep} Star racer
I'm sure there's more.

TopGear 2!

@stefcep2
I recall playing a cover disk demo in January 1993 when I got my A500+.
I must admit that all but forgotten the game by the time started accelerating my A1200, I'll have to dig out the old coverdisk and have a go again.
Other games that benefit from extra speed are Hard Drivin', Race Drivin' and 4D Sports Driving.
Roadkill has got to be one of the most awesome top down racers on the Amiga.
-
I love:
- Vroom;
- Skidmarks AGA (that green cow on wheels is the top most fun car I ever "drive", specially with a caravan attached)
And Roadkill!:-D
-
Xtreme Racing might be my favourite nowdays
-
My favorites are:
- Stunt car racer in serial link
- Street rod (I and II)
- Lombard Rally
-
My favs:
Lotus 2 + 3
Super Cars 1 + 2
Jaguar XJ220
And not a really a racing game, although the only thing you do is drive a car with top-down view:
Miami Chase (gotta love the soundtrack as well! :-))
And on a sidenote: I love Lotus 2 even more because of the HUGEly addictive hidden game
-
Oops, I forgot Formula One Grand Prix from MicroProse and of course Skidmarks 2... :-D
-
One of my very favorites was Test Drive II The Duel, when installed on a hard drive with all the add on disks it was great. Nothing quite like the thrill of driving a muscle car on the autobahn. I also really enjoyed 4D Sports driving on an accelerated Amiga. Another old one that was super fun was Ivan Iron Man Stewarts Super Off Road. Indy 500 was pretty awesome too. There used to be a lot of really great driving games for the Amiga. To be honest the only driving game that I've come across for my PS3 that even comes close to being as much fun as the Amiga driving games is MotorStorm. Most of the others I've played blow.

Cant believe only one other person has mentioned Vroom. Boy i loved that game. What was it a sequel to , my memory is rubbish. was it f1 racer or ssomething ?
