Hello,
I opened my desktop A1200 and I wanted to connect external
CD-Rom with IdeFix Express. I hooked Idefix Express to an
external Cd-Rom with its own power supply. But when I have
to install IdeFix put Install 3.1 into df0: and Ifefix
disk into DF1: but DF1: do not appear. I tried several
external FDD but always DF1: do not appear.
Thinking that was a lack of Power I powered and AmigaKid
DF1: with its own power supply and hocked this secon drive
to a dual FDD cable. But same problem DF1: won't appear.
How can I do to make DF1: work ??????????
Because I cannot install idefix express floppy because it
requires Install 3.1 and then go to write datas of the
disks and the disk become full!!!!
I need 2 Floppy Disk Drivers to do the installation!
What can I do?
Please help me!!!
Many Thanks

Put a hard drive inside your A1200 and install Workbench on that first. WB3+ really does want to be run from a hard drive.
-
Ah I forgot I do have an iternal HD 2.5 !!!
But don't know why : nothing to do the Amiga doesn't wanna
see the DF1:!!!

Hi
Is the port busted. Put your Workbench disk in DF1 ... which I assume is your external floppy drive.. Then BOOT. Keep both mouse buttons depressed [ down ] and wait for the early boot screen. Select Boot Options. If DF1 is there then select to boot from here. If not or doesn`t work then probably the port is busted. I wouldn`t muck about.. Get a replacement motherboard from Ebay. Otherwise you will be struggling a touch.
Why not use IDEFix97 from the one floppy drive and boot from the hard drive... Unclear.

The Amiga do not want to boot from DF1: if I enter in the Menu by holding both mouse buttons. And my HD has been formatted so I do not have WB inside in order to install IdeFix. What do u think? What can I do? Is my Mobo broken?
Let me know,
Thanks in Advance

why do you need to install from df1: when u can use first df0: drive unless its broken, l tryed to get game working from eternal drive with my amiga 2000 because the first drive stoped booting game discs, with early startup screen just made the second external drive lower prriorty in the boot screen it worked for little while but then looked to the orginal internal drive. l oh by the way whn first got into cdroms l used a external cdrom ide just powered with pc psu all sitting on desk not ideal but does work remember with ide and standred 1200 port u have to keep ide cable very short, am not sure with buffered ide express l think its finewell must be because l ran internal ide cdrom and 3 1/2 ide inside the 1200 case it will fit . and had 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 cable which l think whould be the best solution for you . short term anyways

Have you tried stripping the amiga down to bare system, and only boot from DF1?
Most likely your external floppy port is dead...
However, install WB 3.1 to a hard drive. It is what is was meant to do. And then install IDEfix.
-
I booted from DF1: Nuttin to do.
But even if the DF1: port seems to be dead is not true
because I hooked another FDD with the dual cable connector
I mean the FDD for the tower , another DF1: and this is not
on the DF1: port and this is not working also!!!!!
So ... What can the the cause and the solution of me
problem?
-
The controller may be dead.
If i not am completely wrong, the CIAs controls the FDD.
CIAs on any amiga is easily damaged...

You're very lucky these days ! Arent't you ?
So, be a warrior !
Be sure about plugs orientations !!!!!
Use your Install 3.1 disk to create a short bootable partition (10 mb with standard parameters) and format it.
Then restart and open a shell/CLI
COPY ALL FROM DF0: TO HDD:
Rename your HDD: partition name to Install3.1 (like the disk).
Reboot without any floppy.
You now must have the minimal 3.1 component on your machine working ! if not .... retry and post what happen.
Then, put the IDEFIX floppy, you'll need to install it 2 times !!! The 1st one it will update the IDE device then reboot, and the 2nd it will check for HDD/CD/DVD drives.
This is how I made kick install on my miggys
:-P

I installed OS3.1, IderFix , and OS 3.9 with one floppy
but I continue to not see the DF1: what should I do?
Do I have to change mobo?
I remember that before opening the desktop to hook the
IdeFix Express tre DF1: worked fine!!!!
So ?
-
I remember that before opening the desktop to hook the IdeFix Express tre DF1: worked fine!!!!
so:
Try without the IDEfix.
I fact, try removing all parts and boot with only the DF1 to see if it works. If it still do not work, you may have to change the motherboard.
If it works without the IDEfix, it is over my head...
-
Tried without IdeFix ... DF1: doesn't exist.
Is the motherboard fried ?
-
I'm confused,
Is DF1 an internal, or an external drive in your setup?
-
Is the motherboard fried ?
Hard to tell at this moment. You need to find someone who knows how to test CIAs if they operate bad...
(if the CIAs controls the floppy, that is...)

They are certainly involved. http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=20302

maybe the cable or the "external" DF1 circuit is dead.
I know, i have some.
-
@CLS2086
I have tried 3 external FDD and second internal DF1: the ones for tower systems sold me by AmigaKit!
-
Hi
Looks like you have more than one 1200 there. So if the external drives work on your other 1200s then it has to be a busted motherboard. Not too big a problem to replace.
