@Wolfe
For AMD's 2+Ghz plans** refer to
http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?category=1&id=1060102789

The latest AMD Opteron 246 is currently clocked @~2Ghz (since August 5, 2003)…

For the past Power5 and Power6 information refer to
http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=44186

High Ghz is nice, but one has account for the release date for said CPU…

**unconfirmed…

@Athlon

Currently, it's lower than the 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 with hyper-treading.

Read http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/23932.pdf
"Target Maximum Thermal Power: 84.7 Watts" - Page 1.
In page 17, Opteron@ 2600 Mhz indicates the maximum scope for the white paper document.

Indication of Athlon 64’s release speed is given in
http://www.amdzone.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1329&page=7

Note that Athlon 64 940_socket/dual channel/FX-5x/128bit/whatever_suffix  is identical to Opteron 14x except for the label.
