Title: Amiga 3000 Dimensions

I have an Amiga 3000 case I'm thinking of using for a case for an AROS box. A couple of the recent topics got me thinking of moding the case for someting interesting. Like a portable/lugable style computer.
The case I have is packed up in its original box in the basement under other things. Since I didn't feel like going down to dig it out tonight, I went looking online for the case and/or motherboard dimensions. Couldn't find them. Anyone have a clue? I just need these measurement to outline my idea. I was thinking of a stow away keyboard ala the A1000 and flip up monitor. I just need to know the space I have to work with.

Any luck finding these? I happen to have an extra A3000 in pieces right now; when I get home tonight I can measure the mobo and post the dimensions here.

I'm considering using Protocase to fab a new 3U rackmount case, basically moving all the internal components around to make it easier to work on, i.e., moving the floppy and harddrive(s) in standard cages in front of the motherboard, moving the powersupply off to the side of the mobo, etc.

If you or anyone else has the part of the A3000 case which hold the Zorro cards in the back of the case, I'd love to get one for my 16 MHz A3000...

Wow, four years.   Currently, I'm looking to get a 90 degree adapter for PCI cards.

Approximate (accurate to within a couple of millimeters) dimensions: width 13 3/8", left depth is 13 3/8", right depth (because of coprocessor slot bump-out) is about 13 15/16". Almost square, but bigger than EATX, which makes finding a pre-built case very difficult. The ports extend off the back of the board, of course.

This is a B2 9/01 mobo. These dimensions may not be valid for other revisions.

BTW: My A3000 desktop from 1991 still works fine 23 years later, and I have only installed the OS once, as opposed to the 75 or so Windows machines I manage at work, which are less than 8 years old and most of which have had the OS reinstalled multiple times. It's sitting on a desk right behind me as I type this, chugging away happily. Seriously, it has several HDs attached to it that are in excess of 15 years old, with no signs of imminent failure.

They just don't make'em like they used to. :)

Nice, but I need one for a wireless card and graphics card. Which I've already found.

So you have an Amiga 3000 and its original box and you are going to hack it to pieces. The only possible outcome to this is one less Amiga. I really have no idea how or why you would try to convert a square'ish box into a luggable. Only the C128D 'plastic' and SX-64 were truly luggable from the days of Commodore.

Proper luggables were so heavy. As would the 3000.

So before you start butchering the 3000 spare a thought for all those in the world that would love the opportunity to own one. I am sure you could find way better cases to do this with.

Don't worry. The community was one A3000 less before I got it. It came to me via eBay with a damaged motherboard, battery leakage, with no ROMs, no CPU, no RAM, no custom chips. The power supply worked and I sold that off, so saved one A3000 there. I also have the Zorro daughter board backplane board if anyone needs one.
