That's right, I'm unpacking my new AmigaOne board which just came in today, and preparing to put it in the decked out case I've had for months! I'll let you know if I have any problems!
What? No? What were you thinking?
-
Guess what I'm doing right now??
Hmm wha'... WHAT !? That's disgusting ! :-x ;-)
Oh, I see, have fun with your new big toy.... :-D
-
Nice to know you have got your board you should get it up and running easly, im not keen on the ppc version of debian linux i used it for a while and now im just waiting for os4. :-D
-
Luky you....Darn.. I still remember the days I unpacked my ColicoVisioonPC, my C64, my A2000 then I went stupid and unpacked an IBM486DX/33 then repacked it and then unpacked my A4000/040 then unpacked my P3/550 then unpacked my Athlon1.7gz.......an I am very sure my days of packing and unpacking are not over yet.
Have fun unpacking and keep us up to date. :-D

I bet you`re posting on Amiga.org? :-)
-
Congratulations :-)
Hope you will have fun with it. And don't listen to them, LinuxPPC is not THAT bad. It's far from being AmigaOS alike, but a decent OS nevertheless. UAE however will be like starving rations.

Congrats, dude! :-)
-
Congrats :) They're nice machines, i don't regret buying mine one bit, but its crying out for OS4 ... :-D
-
Congrat's on your new Amiga, Marky. I'm looking forward to hearing what you and the rest of the AmigaOne folks say about their machines. I am waiting for OS4 to come out before buying one, simply because I know absolutely NOTHING about Linux and the other operating systems. Keep us posted. Regards.....Art :-D

congrats ;-) though i´d prefer the pegasos.
/me is looking forward to unpacking it :-D

This is one of the smaller rewards of havign lots of kids and a president who likes refunding excess taxes! Hopefully I'll have everything up by tomorrow evening and I'll post from it then! (Using what as a browser? Dunno yet.)
-
I think you are going to have too much fun. :-D
-
I was thinking that I'm typing this out to you from Voyager running on my Pegasos and going "ya know, at least I can run Amiga apps."
Well, you *did* ask what I was thinking.

cool

Sorry I haven't answered back with how much I enjoyed my new AmigaOne BUT.........
Truth is, I've spent the last several days kicking, swearing (OH DARN!) and throwing things at it. I kept thinking "I'm not that stupid, and installing LINUX can't really be that hard!," but every time I got to the second install disk, I got a bunch of error messages and a "retry" option. Finally, figuring that I'm too smart and a simple install cant fool me this badly, I e-mailed Forefront Technologies. Less than 24 hours later, I received the mostly good news: I am too smart. Installing Linux is not that hard. The CDs in this batch were corrupt. New ones are already on their way. Good service, I say, although I still will have to wait to see my Amiga in action. Sob. Sniffle.
-
P.S. One day was wasted because the brand new DVD drive I bought at FRY's ALSO didn't work. i'm beginning to think it's a "ME" thing.
-
Oh man, bad CD's. :-( On the bright side, it happens all the time. I got a new game for my PS2 a few months ago, and the DVD was bad. It can't be helped. I'm sure you'll have linux up and running in no time when you get replacement CD's.

Congratulations from the Midlands !

and you've got TIME to mess with computers ?! way to go ! I've got two (2 and 4.5 yrs) and I get no time !!
... and a president who likes refunding excess taxes!
ha ! we've got a prime minister who likes to tax, and thinks he's a president !
(its always nice to see people try (very hard ;-) ) to find something positive to say about someone - must've took some doing !)

Mmmmmm theres nowt like the feeling of unpacking a box of bits and savouring the moment just before you embark on construction ! I too have an AmigaOne (G3XE), but I havent got it online yet. I tend to stick to me 1200 for net stuff...current project is getting FTP to work between the two - tough, given that I know stuff all about the vagaries of TCP - I have tended to let Miami do the hard stuff until now ! :-D (Linux is too much of a pain in the bum if you need to configure stuff. Boots faster than NT on my similarly specced work PC though ;-) )
whats the full spec of your machine then ?

Sorry to hear about the corrupt CD:s. I installed Linux on my
AmigaONE a month or so back, and it was quite simple. So
once you get CD-replacements, you should be up and running
in no time. The board works nicely.
... By the way, if you have another computer with internet,
don't you have acess to the closed AOne dev area - as a part
of being on the mailing list I mean? I think the AOne install CD
is there as an iso image along with the needed DebianCD - all
you need to get going.
