Well... yeah, sounds crazy right? But a new friend of mine got this A4KT, an A4000D and a dead A2000 from a TV production company and he wanted to have a working A2000, so I gave him my Vanilla (kickstart 1.2) A2000 for the A4KT with is in not so good (scratches and dirt in the case) cosmetic condition but complete and working (mint inside!)!! The A4KT has a 3640 CPU board, a VT 4000, a TBC and a fastlane Z3!
He also gave me 2 original Commodore A4K keyboards :-D
This has been one of those very lucky days I will definately never forget!
Cheers!
:-D

Grats!.. But dam you !!!

Of course, we can understand with some contemplation that there's no such thing as luck, chance, or randomness. You deserved them. Given you paid some big bucks for another A4000T, you deserved more for your hard-earned money or your hard-work and things seem to average out towards that end.
-
You cant be much of a friend if you're prepared to a$$ rape him like that :-(
If he completely knew what the A4kT was worth, knew he could sell it and buy the greatest A2000 on planet earth and STILL wanted to trade then wow! Either he's a GREAT friend or money just doesnt matter to him!

WHAT A DEAL :-o

Sounds like he (or she) didn't know what they had, and you took advantage of that.
I'm not sure there are many 'new friends' who would knowingly exchange a $3000(ish) system for s $150 system (no matter the cosmetics).
It would be interesting to hear your 'friends' take on the deal, why not invite them to comment?
Saying all that, stranger things have happened, and the human condition does allow for the most extraordinary acts of generosity and self sacrifice, so it is possible.
Plus they got a system they actually wanted.
In which case, well done on a satisfactory deal all round.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

your friend must be stupid
no offence ...

Why waste all this time arguing? I suggest we simply stop all the bickering and sacrifice Dragster to our god.

@Alexh
Well, actually he proposed the trade... I run a mailing list called "AmigaMexico" in yahoogroups, he found us and joined the list... he said he did not have any amiga but he read those articles on the net about the history of the amiga and that waken up his interest in the machine again, a few days after that he said in the list "I've got 4 amigas!!"... he said they had the machines where he works (a TV production company) and he didn't say how much he paid for all of them, actually, the mahcines were only three, he said the company didn't want to sell him the 2nd A4KT. In the very first email he said he wanted to keep the A4000D and the A2000 and he also said he didn't have any interest on keeping the Video Toaster at all, then he noticed the A2000 did NOT work, so he said in the list:
"I want a working A4000D and an A2000", whoever gives me a working A4000D, gets the A4000D and the A4000T! or.. if you give me an A2000, I'll give you my dead A2000 + A4KT with TBC, Toaster and 3640 boards + 2 Amiga 4000 keyboards with minidin--> DIN adapters.
So, I had a spare (and working) Amiga2000 with original A2000 keyboard, original mouse, I told him this and we closed the deal... as simple as that. Later he found the A4000D worked after he cleaned it up.
He was very interedted in the cosmetic condition of the A2K... and it seems he doesn't lke Amiga Technologies, or maybe he didn't have enough space to keep the machine, but it was in no way a intentional rip off.
Cheers

Nice! I recently traded an A1200 with MBX 030/33 and a PC keyboard adapter for an A4000 (only 030/25mhz) in a towerhawk (with a 7 zorroslot busboard). But your deal was even better i admit :)

That is one colorful metaphor for someone taking advantage of a friend.

Did you at any time mention to him the net values of the two machines and how this was a poor deal for him?
Were you nervous he might change his mind right up to the point you exchanged?
Did you get it home as fast as possible and then rub your hands in glee?
Of course you ripped him off. And if I were in your situation I would have done the same!
I'm not sure I would have described my victim as a "new friend" though ;-)

Well I imagine that guy Got the Amigas for peanuts, thus his eagerness to trade for a nice A2000. No big deal, but maybe offer him some extra stuff he might need? Email him and see if he needs anything else, its the least you can do for your "taking advantage of him" LOL
-
The guy probably did not have to pay much to take the A4kT and other Amigas off the production company's hands, so he did not expect to get much when trading the A4kT for the A2000. He probably just wants to play some old games and nothing more. I am sure he will regret it later when he knows more about Amigas and finds out what it was really worth.
Great grab, I probably would have done the same and then lived with my guilty conscience later.
