Title: 57600 on 68000
Post by: orange on March 16, 2008, 06:33:32 PM
I read that its possible to get 57600 on serial port using baudbandit.device with 68000. I've tried it (baudbandit v1.4c, JR-Comm and Terminus) and it would only do max 38400 with occasional errors. Is there another version that can do better? I tried lowering WB2.1 colors from 4 to 2, but that didn't help.
(config: 1MbChip 2MbFast A590, KS2.04, saving to HDD)

It scares me that I knew exactly what that topic meant. :)

Try saving to RAM instead.

if the file was small enough for RAM:, the transfer speed wouldn't really matter

I think 38400 baud is the fastest I could ever get with the built-in serial port. To get transfer speeds above that you need a serial i/o card - I don't know if they make one for an Amiga 500. I could be wrong though, it has been a long time since I used a modem.

My memory on this is very foggy, but I did have a 56k modem with my A500 back in the day.  I had a 030/50, and I'm pretty sure I needed it.  I think I was running the serial port at 38400.  Don't really remember.

It's been along time for me as well.  I used a serial.device replacement called 8N1.device.  It's available on aminet.  With it I could get 56K thru my modem on my A3000, I don't remember how fast it was on A500.

I remember not being able to get those high speeds, too. Something about some defective serial ports or something.

If I remember correctly, even on my A1200/030, I could only get that speed from the external Squirrel SCSI controller card's serial port.  On the native amiga port I always got less.

hi try getting baudbandit v 1.4 b l think c wasint as good got alot crashs on my bbs software l think 38400 whould be the max on my 020 1200 on the standred serial port as its unbuffered . try lowering it to 38400 or even dare l say it 19200 it wont afeect dl speed to much any way . also use zmodem proctcol for your downlaoding much better :-)

IIRC some terminal programs have built-in optimized serial.device which should allow 38400 without problems. 57600 is probably little too much but it also helps if you are downloading files to ram.

I got my Timex/Sinclair 2068 with the 3" (CF2) Portuguese FDD3000 floppy disk system in the CP/M mode doing 19200 (on the RS-232 serial B port) running IMP!  A stock A500 should be able to do better than that!
