I have been having trouble with my front usb and audio ports for my motherboard (GA-M57SLI-S4)
here is what the manual says that came with my board
pin1 mic2_l
pin2 gnd
pin3 mic2_r
pin4 -acz_det
pin5 line2_r
pin6 fsense1
pin7 faudio_jd
pin8 nopin
pin9 line2_l
pin10 fsesnse2
here is what the front audio leads say in the case (n no perticular order)
mic-in
ground
return L
spkout R
spkout L
return R
mic-bias
if any one could help?

It seems that you have 2 different type of connectors.

thanks for the links but the board i have is not intel it is amd or does this not matter?

I post these links to show you that your motherboard's audio connector is probably a HD version (Intel or AC-97) and your front panel's connector is an older type.
Probably you can not connect each other :-(

some of the HD audio boards that come with motherboards can connect to an analog AC-97 connection but it's at a different location on the board.
Mine had two connections side by side..no documentation on which was which other than some slight clues printed on the board.
it may not be connected properly.

the mothrboard i have supports both ac'97 and hd audio

If I remember the connector on mine was identical but it was wired differently.
look through your docs again, check online support
