Title: CD/DVD burning driving me NUTS in WinXP....
Post by: marcfrick2112 on March 09, 2008, 05:51:56 AM
Grrr.... To make it short, does anyone know if there's some trick to have 2 different versions of Nero installed at the same time on one computer? Basically, Nero 6 Ultra won't handle any .CUE files, but version 5.5 which does .CUE's, won't burn custom VCD's, or even recognize my DVD drive. So, I have Nero 5.5, and a bunch of clunky freeware/shareware programs that don't really work that well.........

Any ideas? Some quality freeware/shareware app that might actually do everything on its' own?

Thanks for any advice...

What specifically is happening?

Well, to be as direct as I can; When I tried burning discs using a .CUE file in Nero 6, I got an 'invalid command' error. From what I have read on other forums, versions of Nero above 5.6 or so have some problems with .CUE's and some .ISO's. I could easily live with this older version of Nero, except that it won't let me run 'Nero SmartStart' (program selector for Nero... only way to get to the backup program, for example)

I could use this version on a semi-permanent basis, except it can't convert video files, I think....

I had exactly the same problem with errors burning .CUE files. Try Alcohol 120% - it did the trick perfectly for me. I don't know whether it will fill your other needs, but it might live happily along-side Nero.

When I was having problems with NSS on version...6? I think?  the advice I got from the company was to try running it in compatibility mode (win 98/ME).

I know; it's wacky...like having to ReLoKick to get an old package working on the Amiga...*shrug*

Thanks guys,

moto: thanks, I may try Alcohol120%, but grrr.... I really don't want to buy even more software for my PeeCee. I recently registered CDRWin, recommended on some forums, it worked exactly ONE time... now I just get a very helpful 'Writing Failed   Exception' requester, oops, sorry it's called a dialogue box in Windows-speak..

B00tDisk: I'll try compatiblilty mode.........

Anyone know if there's a 'SnoopDos'-type program for WinXP???

Just check with the wordpad the .CUE file and make sure that the path to the .BIN file is correct. Hope this helps.

I always use Nero 6 and never had problems... and Frying Pan :-D
