Title: OS4 boot problems
Post by: Andywest41 on March 02, 2008, 10:19:56 PM
Dear fellow Amiga fans,

I've recently got my sticky fingers on a copy of OS4 and having had many problems I've managed to install it. However, I have the following problem. From cold boot, my 4000 boots, resets and then will not load OS4. It simply sits there and does nothing, and my monitor goes into standby as it's not receiving a signal. However, if I warm reset and hold down the left mouse button, I get a message on screen about the CSPPC SCSI port having no drives attached and then the 4000 boots straight into OS4 no problems. I've tried a different hard drive but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Has anyone got any idea why I have to hold the left mouse button down every time I do a reboot?

A4000 desktop in tower case, 17Gb IDE HDD, CSPPC 060/180MHz, 128Mb RAM, Picasso IV, Paloma, Algor USB with Norway, Toccata, IDE CD-ROM

It's the Algor. I have to disable mine whenever I boot into MorphOS and I expect the same will be true when I finally get OS4 installed. Either the Bootloader itself or the modules installed in the Flash conflict with the re-kicked modules of the newer OSes.

Hi, thanks for the solution. I've tried removing the Algor and this does indeed seem to fix the problem. However, then I'm left with no USB support. Any ideas how to work around this?

Looks like you already found the work-around; - Leave the card in & carry on holding the Mouse Button.  ;-)

Might be worthwhile dropping an email over here @ the Algor Site. They take a day or threee to respond, but are usually very helpful.

Good luck!  :-)

Yep, just keep a mouse button pressed while cold booting - the default is the LMB, the exact one depends on the bootloader installed in the Algor. Check the Luciferin docs.

The button has to be held down during the entire boot process. My OS4 partition isn't my default, so even after I select it from the Early Startup menu I have to continue to hold it down or the Algor FlashROM will activate. When rebooting OS4, I have to hold down the button or the Algor FlashROM will activate. It's a bit of a hassle, but I don't know any other way around it.

Poseidon can be safely started from the OS4 startup-sequence by adding the line
Code: [Select]
ENVARC:PsdStackLoader
I put it right before C:USBCtrl START.

How about E3B's "Deneb" (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31559)?
