Title: ? on value of a Cybervision 64 / 3D?
Post by: sprocket on March 02, 2008, 01:08:40 PM
So what's a Cybervision 64 / 3D worth?

the scan doubler that goes with it?

I think this is the Phase 5 version (not the DCE version)

I'm seeing current auctions in the UK ending today where both components are at $182 each with 7 hours to go.

and this one sold in Sweden for $210:

The graphics card itself isn't nearly as hard to find as the scan doubler module. That's why you will probably see those sell for more that the graphics board itself does.

It's a nice combination. I have it in one of my A4000T's with a Toaster/Flyer setup. The Picasso IV is even better though, IMHO.

in recent posts I've gotten some grief for my pricing so I figured it was just safer to test the waters and let everyone discuss the relative values of these things before I list them or sell them outright.

at the moment, the only reference I have shows them at the same price.

My guess is that the card is worth about $200-225 and the scan doubler then is worth about $250 but like all things, there may be sales where each sells for as much as 30% under that.

sound close to right?

You may want to check some of the remaining Amiga dealers. You may find a new one in stock for less than what they have been going for on EBay. I got one like that a few weeks ago.

well, I'm looking to let go of this one..not get another.

as for dealers, I've found them listed but often there is no stock once you contact them.

Where did you get yours?

$200+ sounds kind of high for the States. Euro Amiga stuff has been going for more for various reasons. Look at the prices of the big box Amigas for example. I picked up a 4000T with Cyberstorm MK3, ethernet card, and 1084S monitor for $630 off E-bay recently. Every 4000T I have seen sell in Europe has gone for $1500 up. I would put the value of the Cybervision 64/3D at about $160 here in the States. The scandoubler is rare and probably worth more, maybe $200. Both sold together probably will bring less as they are then competing with the PicassoIV price wise. The PicassoIV is better in almost every way except lacks the 3D which isn't very fast anyway. I have an extra Cybervision 64/3D myself that I'd sell for $200. I'm not in any big hurry to sell as Amiga hardware is holding it's value much better than the dollar  .

All the PPC stuff is high because of OS4.  Cyberstorm 3D and PIV are the best of the existing zorro display cards IMHO...with Retina and others coming in after that.

prices in Europe are higher largely because the dollar is in the dumper...which means, if at all practical, I've opened my listings to worldwide sales for items that weren't impractical to ship.

..even the shipping ends up not being so bad from the point of view of outside the U.S.

I'd expect a worldwide listing of a Cyberstorm to do pretty well....maybe knocking $25-40 off the values I mentioned previously to cover shipment but that's still better than $160.

..never know until you go though.

Software hut was selling new old stock for Cybervision 64 3D
A2/3/4000 $ 179.95 USD. They sold the last one that they had a  couple months ago. A week before I had saved up enough money to buy it.

Now I see them on ebay used going for over $200. Life is sometimes so unfair. I know it's a sellers market but it's hard to be an Amiga user these days.

@sprocket

I bought mine from Software Hut a little over a month ago for $179. At the time they had 4 left. But as Nlandas stated they must have all been sold since.

yeah, that's what I meant...

I find many things on Software or Compuquick's site..and elsewhere...I always email or phone first before ordering these days as things may not be there or they may only have a few left.

after that..it's only the used market.

I asked Software Hut a couple weeks ago and they were sold out.

After seeing the latest one on ePay, I give up trying to find one.  Actually, I'm in luck, because the guy I sold my old one to wants to trade me for my Meditator A4000T.  Hopefully Elbox can fix my A3000D model and then I have a deal.

You will rarely, if ever, find deals on eBay for stuff like video cards/SD/FF, etc.  I find the only real "deals" from User groups members (VERY few left) Craig's list and the odd flea market.
And from people here.
