Title: Hello

I used to have 3 Amiga's years ago (due to divorce) I had to part with them. I would like to know what model would be best for most older games . I'm kinda of leaning toward try to get a 2000 from a friend  but no luck quiet yet.
Any thing I should be aware of?

I like the 2000.. It's expandable and a nice all around machine. 1200 is a nice machine for games but costs a lot more.

The A2000 with a 030 is perfect unless you need AGA. Internet, email, MP3's & music CD's, no problem. Try and find a GVP Combo maybe 30 - 50 Mhz or so with some ram.

Forgive me for sounding like Doomy but I think that the Amiga 2000 is great even for the tasks you mentioned. Sure there is no AGA but you can get a graphics card which is a zillion times better. If you get an 030 or even better a 2060 accelerator with some more RAM and you have an excellent Amiga for browsing on nice resolutions heaps better than AGA offers

I think as far as old compatibility goes the 2000 is a safe bet you can run old games but also gfx card games providing you have the power in the accelerator

Also they are much nicer to expand than the desktop A1200 with a decent sized case.

Just my two pence! :lol:

Hello and welcome!  :-)

I have only just got hold of a A2000 and I must say I love it!

I have had an A500, A600, A1200 and a A4000, and now a A2000. I find my A2000 very capable, even though mine has no accelerator.

And also as everyone has said, they are nice and easy to expand.

A 2000 is worth more then a 1200?! :-o

Except that it has a 16bit bus which chokes communication between your peripherals.  I think if you're gonna go the whole hog of graphics cards, accelerators then do it on 32bit bus like on an A4000 or A3000.  Otherwise give it a bit of fast ram and a hard drive and be happy with that, its still ok.
