Hello,
this is my first post.I'm into Amiga again after leaving it on 1994. Now I got an A1200 HD with 030.
I don't know why because if I format under OS 3.1 I have on the workbench the icon DF2:???? DF3:???? and when I install OS 3.9 I have DF2:Unreadable DF3:Unreadable.
And these icons don't wanna be disapper o be eliminated
What can I do to remove them?
Thank You

Check SYS:Devs/DosDrivers for DF2 and DF3 icons, if they are there delete them or move them to storage.
If they are not in the DosDrivers drawer, check your Startup-Sequence for any references to DF2 and DF3.
You can get rid of the icons on OS3.9 by selecting to hide them in Prefs/Workbench.

Maybe the *ready signal in some of the floppy connectors is shortcircuited or a CIA chip is broken?
I think it was that signal which is used to detect if the drives extra drives (anything more than the first, DF0) are present in the system

where should I go?
what shoud I click?
thanks

Sounds like HW problem to me. Workbench 3.9 WB prefs sure can hide those extra icons, but it doesn't really fix anything (the reason why those bogus entries appear).

Just a small thought here: are the icons called DF2/DF3 or DH2/DH3? In that case it's just 2 harddisk partitions that need formatting (yeah, sounds stupid but I've had that myself in the past with unformatted partitions on a removable device - took me a few minutes to figure that one out :-))

Please,
where should I go in Workbech 3.9 to get rid of these icons
DF2:???? DF3:????
I don't see anything related with that in Preferences?
Can you help me?
Thanks

When you say you're formatting - what exactly are you doing? Are you actually trying to format a floppy? Or do you mean that when you've installed and booted into WB you find these rogue disk icons?
If it's the latter, then it's probably a hardware problem.
Have a look inside the Amiga and check out the floppy cable. Make sure it's connnected properly and is a standard Amiga jobby (i.e. no twisted conductors. Also check the drive to see if it's an original Amiga item.
The problem (I think) stems from the select lines being driven low making the OS think that you have DF2 and DF3 connected to the internal floppy header (or external floppy port). As far as I've been able to ascertain, the select lines shouldn't be physically connected.
It could just be that the custom chips that control the floppy drives have gone 'bad' - in which case a new mobo would be required.

You get rid of the icons by going to Prefs:Workbench and tick Hidden Devices for what you want not to show.

Hmmm - sounds interesting!
Up until now I haven't been able to do anything with the rogue disk icons. When the icons are clicked, an error message similar to 'icon has no default tool' appears and that's that really. :-?
But I'll try your method and see what happens. :-)

you have two extra external diskdrives connected or what?

@Zipper
Problem solved like suggested by you, I simply went to Prefs:Workbench and tick Hidden Devices and ticked the devices to hidden!Many thanks Zipper!
@DrDekker
I don't think it's time to change my mobo for a silly problem like this,anyway when my A1200T would die I have
other 3 A1200 and I could easily change the motherboard.
